A look at Aberdeen's break-camp roster

The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds have announced their break-camp roster as they get set to open another season in the New-York Penn League.

Aberdeen will host Hudson Valley on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium on opening night.

Jean Cosme, a 19-year-old right-hander, is expected to get the start on opening night for the IronBirds. He was drafted in round 17 last year. Travis Seabrooke, the Orioles' fifth-round pick in 2013, is set to start the second game, with Francisco Jimenez pitching the third game.

Baseballs glove.jpgThe Aberdeen roster right now consists of 12 pitchers, four catchers, seven infielders and seven outfielders. In the New York-Penn League, a team can carry up to 35 players on its roster with 30 active each game.

Left-hander Tanner Scott, a sixth-round pick from the 2014 draft class, will pitch out of the Aberdeen bullpen, working multiple innings. Scott has a fastball that has touched the mid-90s and even 100 mph at times.

Here is the current Aberdeen roster (the six draft picks just selected have their draft round listed):

Pitchers: Daniel Ayers, Patrick Baker, Jean Cosme, Keegan Ghidotti, Kevin Grendell, Francisco Jimenez, Caleb Kellogg, Yi-Hsiang Lin, Elias Pinales, Luc Rennie, Tanner Scott, Travis Seabrooke.

Catchers: Brandon Coluccio, Alexander De La Cruz, Stuart Levy (27), Jerry McClanahan (19).

Infielders: Steve Laurino (25), Alexander Lee, Ronarsy Ledesma, Austin Pfeiffer, Guillermo Salas, Trevor Sprowl, Drew Turbin (14).

Outfielders: Randolph Gassaway, Tad Gold, Oswill Lartiguez, Cedric Mullins (13), Mike Odenwaelder (16), Ademar Rifaela, Yariel Vargas.

Aberdeen's manager is Luis Pujols, who is joined on the staff by pitching coach Justin Lord, hitting coach Calvin Pickering and coach Shawn McGill. Marty Brinker is the athletic trainer and Creede Simpson is the strength coach.

Later this summer, on Aug. 18, Aberdeen will host the New York-Penn League All-Star game.

The Orioles have two short-season minor league clubs. The other, the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Orioles, begin a new season in Florida on Monday.

Among the players listed on the GCL roster right now are Carlos Diaz, Ofelky Peralta, Ryan Mountcastle and Lazaro Leyva. I'll have more on the GCL and Dominican Summer League rosters coming soon.
