Another walk-off win: O's top the first-place Sox in 10

Oriole baseball is getting fun with Buck Showalter at the helm. Tonight, the O's improved to 4-0 under their new manger and won in walk-off fashion for the second night in a row. Adam Jones RBI single to left with two outs in the 10th gave the O's the 2-1 win over Chicago. Nick Markakis singled with one out in the tenth and advanced to third on a Luke Scott single. Jones' first hit of the night gave the O's an extra-innings win.

Markakis went 4 for 5 on the night as the O's knocked off the AL Central leaders, who were 38-13 over their past 51 games. Alfredo Simon, the third O's pitcher, worked scoreless ninth and tenth frames to get the win. Brad Bergesen did not factor in the decision, but continued the strong starting pitching for the club since Showalter became manager. Bergesen gave up just one run, a solo homer to Gordon Beckham in the third, over seven innings. He allowed five hits and threw 90 pitches and has an ERA of 1.93 over his past two starts. This was the O's fourth straight quality start. It's the first time they have done that all year and first time since last May 29 to June 1. The O's first three hitters leading off the game singled to score a run with Ty Wigginton driving in Brian Roberts for a 1-0 lead. Beckham matched that with his blast in the third. The O's wasted a major chance to break a 1-1 tie in the last of the 8th. Roberts walked and Markakis singled and they moved up to second and third on a wild pitch. But Wigginton lined out to third. After a walk, Jones popped up and pinch-hitter Corey Patterson fanned with the bases loaded vs. Tony Pena. But they made up for that by not wasting their chance to win in the tenth and are now 9-3 in extra-innings, the best record in the AL in extra-innings games.
