Arrieta was impressive (update, O's win)

If Jake Arrieta just had not walked number nine hitter Chad Moeller leading off the top of the third. That led to two Yankees runs, but this young man did a very solid job in his Major League debut. He might beat the Yankees and A.J. Burnett in his Major League debut since he leaves with a 4-3 lead after six innings. Arrieta tonight: 6IP, 4H, 3R-ER, 4B, 6K. He threw 106 pitches, 61 for strikes. He showed the confidence and poise we heard that he had. The Yankees hitters went just 4 for 20 against him on the night. Over his last three innings he gave up just one hit with four strikeouts. Of his four walks, two were intentional. He got out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, getting Marcus Thames on strikes for what turned out to be his last hitter. He hit 96 and I think 97 on the gun a few times and his slider looked great over the final few frames. To me, this was an impressive debut. How does everyone feel about him starting against the Yankees tonight? By the way, Tim Bascom allowed three runs over seven innings for Norfolk tonight in his Triple-A debut. He gave up just one run through the first seven innings, but the first two hitters in the eighth singled and Bascom was pulled. Those runners later scored and were charged to his record. Update: The Orioles beat the Yankees 4-3 as Arrieta won his Major League debut and David Hernandez pitched the ninth for his first career save. Arrieta gave up just one hit to the last 16 batters he faced. Hernandez retired Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher for the final two outs with a man on first in the ninth and left Mark Teixeira in the on deck circle as the game ended.
