Beltre gets No. 3,000, but O's get the win, take series

ARLINGTON, Texas - On the day that Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre got his 3,000th hit, the Orioles hit two homers, scored double-digit runs and got the victory.

The Orioles scored four in the fourth and five runs on a pair of homers in the fifth for a 10-6 victory. They lost the series opener Friday, but won the next two games to take this series.

They head home now after a 3-3 road trip to Tampa Bay and Texas at 50-54 with eight wins over their last 13 games. They finish the season series 6-1 versus the Rangers and host Kansas City Monday night to start seven-game homestand at Oriole Park.

Beltre's double to left in the fourth off Wade Miley was the hit that made him the 31st member of Major League Baseball's 3,000-hit club. Beltre fell behind 3-0 in the count and then lined a two-bagger down the third-base line.

Beltre was mobbed by his teammates and his family greeted him on the field as he got a loud and long standing ovation from 32,437 at Globe Life Park. Orioles players hugged and congratulated him, as well. He became the first Dominican-born player with 3,000 hits and the fifth born outside the United States.

But the Orioles broke out on offense to get the victory. They scored four in the fourth, getting RBI singles from Trey Mancini, Chris Davis and Welington Castillo that made it 3-0. With one out and runners on second and third, Rubén Tejada reached on a 6-5 fielder's choice to score Davis for the fourth run.

Leading 4-2, the Orioles blew this game open with a five-run top of the fifth that featured Jonathan Schoop's two-run homer and a three-run shot by Castillo.

Schoop hit a 94 mph Martin Perez fastball out to left to plate Manny Machado, who had singled to make it 6-2. It was No. 24 for the Orioles second baseman, who has hit three homers his last four games and six over his past 10.

Castillo blasted a 415-foot homer off the left field foul pole and his three-run shot made it 9-2. Castillo hit No. 10 on a 2-2 fastball. It was his first homer since July 14.

Schoop's RBI single in the sixth made it 10-2 and gave him a three-RBI day. Schoop has driven in at least one run in 11 of his past 13 games with 22 RBIs in that span. He began the day with 73 RBIs to rank third in the American League and tied for ninth in the majors.

Castillo drove in four for the Orioles, who went 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The O's had scored just six runs in the first two games of this series and 16 runs in their previous five games.

Miley got the benefit of all the offense to win for just the second time in eight starts. He threw 105 pitches over five innings, allowing four hits and two runs. He is now 5-9 with an ERA of 5.60. Before today, Miley had pitched to an ERA of 9.69 his past 10 starts.

Texas hit three homers in the latter innings off Orioles relievers to close to 10-6. Rougned Odor hit a solo homer off Darren O'Day in the sixth and a two-run homer off Donnie Hart in the eighth. He had a five-RBI game. Nomar Mazara hit a solo homer in the eighth off Miguel Castro.

When Hart walked a batter and Mychal Givens hit another with one out in the ninth, Zach Britton came on to record his eighth save. He fanned Mazara and got Beltre to ground out. He was pitching on back-to-back days for the first time since April 13-14.

On Monday night at Camden Yards, Ubaldo Jiménez (4-7, 6.93 ERA) gets the start for the Orioles and lefty Danny Duffy (7-6, 3.56 ERA) will pitch for Kansas City.
