Draft pick updates

Now that the draft is over, even though there are just a few weeks left in the minor league seasons, here are the affiliates where some of the recently signed players will be reporting to: Manny Machado - Gulf Coast League Dan Klein - Aberdeen Matt Bywater - Aberdeen Parker Bridwell - Gulf Coast League Alex Schmarzo - Aberdeen Klein has thrown two bullpen sessions with Aberdeen and is now on the IronBirds active roster. He may throw one live batting practice session before he gets into his first pro game. Pitchers Kenneth Wise (round 19) and Jaime Esquivel (round 28) were signed to 2011 contracts and will not pitch this year. The O's will need to see what kind of shape Machado is in and let him work out with the GCL team and get up to speed before he plays in any games. Also, because the GCL team season ends in late August, we are hearing that Machado and Conner Narron (round five) will report to the Aberdeen IronBirds for the final days of the season. Aberdeen has games scheduled through September 5th. Bridwell, the O's ninth-round pick out of Hereford High in Texas, should get in a game in a few days with the GCL team. Narron has already played five games in the Gulf League, going 3 for 16 with an RBI. Meanwhile, Matt Hobgood, who has not pitched for Delmarva since July 31st, is due to rejoin the Shorebirds rotation tomorrow night. Hobgood has been out due to lower back spasms. He is 3-7, 4.91 in 17 starts. Since he has missed several weeks, it's likely he will be limited in the amount he'll throw in that first game back.
