Fujinami joins active roster (plus lineups and notes)

The Orioles completed their roster move today by welcoming reliever Shintaro Fujinami to the club and optioning Logan Gillaspie to Triple-A Norfolk.

Fujinami was acquired from the Athletics on Wednesday for Triple-A left-hander Easton Lucas. He goes into the bullpen, where Gillaspie sat for two games without pitching.

Fujinami was given No. 14, last worn by infielder Rio Ruiz in 2021.

Alone in first place for the first time since August 2016, the Orioles will try to build on their one-game lead with Kyle Bradish back on the mound and on his own roll.

Bradish has lowered is ERA to 3.05, with no runs allowed in his last two starts over 13 1/3 innings and one run in his last three over 19 1/3. He’s surrendered three runs in his last four starts spanning 26 1/3 innings.

Bradish faced the Rays on June 20 at Tropicana Field and allowed two runs with eight strikeouts in five innings. In three career starts against Tampa Bay, Bradish has registered a 7.98 ERA and 1.705 WHIP over 14 2/3 innings with 13 runs and 20 hits allowed.

Yandy Díaz is 4-for-9 with a double against Bradish. Randy Arozarena is 3-for-8 with two home runs.

Left-handed hitters have posted a .100 slugging percentage against Bradish in his last two starts. They slugged .611 in the two previous starts.

Gunnar Henderson is leading off and playing shortstop. Colton Cowser is in center field, Ryan Mountcastle is the designated hitter and Jordan Westburg is playing third base.

Anthony Santander is slashing .305/.431/.542 (18-for-59) with three homers during his current 17-game on-base streak. He’s in right field.

Right-hander Zach Eflin is 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA and 1.025 WHIP in 18 starts, with only 15 walks and 11 home runs surrendered in 105 1/3 innings. He’s registered 10 quality starts but has allowed seven runs and 11 hits in his last two outings in eight innings.

After going 8-1 with a 2.97 ERA through 11 starts, Eflin is 2-4 with a 4.66 ERA in his last seven.

Eflin faced the Orioles on May 9 at Camden Yards and allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings. Adley Rutschman hit a two-run homer.

Santander is 3-for-6 with a double and home run against Eflin.

The Orioles have the best average in the majors on the first pitch of an at-bat at .404. Tampa Bay throws strikes on the first pitch of an at-bat at 62 percent, per STATS.
