Hobgood skips one start

The Orioles top pick in last June's draft, right-hander Matt Hobgood has not pitched for the Delmarva Shorebirds since June 11, but is expected to make his next start when the Shorebirds season resumes later this coming week after the upcoming All-Star break. Hobgood was skipped one turn due to slight shoulder soreness that is not believed to be anything more serious than that. When the Shorebirds reset their rotation after the All-Star break, the 19-year-old hurler is expected to be in it. Hobgood is 3-6, 4.48 in 12 starts for Delmarva. Over 64 1/3 innings, he has allowed 63 hits with 30 walks, 42 strikeouts and a .261 batting average against. He gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in five innings in his last start on June 11 vs. Lexington. Hobgood by month: April: 1-1, 4.57 in four starts May: 2-3, 4.70 in six starts June: 0-2, 3.75 in two starts Hobgood has allowed 41 runs on the year and 13 have come in the third innings of those starts. Left-handed batters hit .240 off him, right-handers bat .276 and he yields an average of .250 when pitching with runners in scoring postion. The Shorebirds, who have won six in a row heading into this afternoon's game, resume play on Thursday after the upcoming All-Star break.
