Hoes and Miclat to the Keys DL

The Frederick Keys have placed two middle infielders on the disabled list today as second baseman L.J. Hoes and shortstop Greg Miclat go on the DL, which must last at least seven days in the minor leagues. Hoes has missed several games now due to a form of strep throat and his DL stint is retroactive to May 18. Miclat, who missed two weeks in April with a broken nose, last night suffered a sprained foot sliding into second base in the third inning of a game Wednesday night. Hoes, a third-round pick in 2008, was batting .290-1-20 in 35 games with an OPS of .808. The illness should not keep him out too much longer, perhaps into early next week when he can return from the DL. Hoes leads the league with 24 walks. Miclat, a fifth-round pick out of the University of Virginia in 2008, is batting .298-0-6 in 26 games. For now the Keys are two players under the Carolina League roster limit. First-place Frederick lost at home earlier today 7-5 to Potomac. The Keys, now 25-16, got two hits and three RBI from Joe Mahoney, who is now batting .324 and a homer from Bobby Stevens. Oliver Drake gave up five runs over 3 2/3 to take the loss.
