Jimenez struggles again as Angels score five in third (Angels win 10-2)

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Orioles were looking for improvement today from right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez, but they sure didn't get any. The Los Angeles Angels scored five times against him in the last of the third to open a 6-0 lead.

In the first three innings, Jimenez gave up seven hits and six runs with two walks and one strikeout. His ERA went from 5.60 to 6.38 by the end of the third inning.

Cron with one out in the second and Cron advanced to second on a deep fly out to center field. With two outs, catcher Carlos Perez blooped one to right that fell for a single and 1-0 lead. It was just past the reach of second baseman Jonathan Schoop, who was charging out toward the bloop.

In the third, the first six batters reached before an out was recorded. The inning started this way - double, RBI single, walk, RBI double, RBI single and RBI double. The Angels scored five times on five hits, a walk and a Ryan Flaherty error. Five different Angels have already knocked in runs.

After scoring just five runs combined in the series' first two games, Los Angeles got six in the first three frames today. Jimenez began today with that inflated ERA and was 1-2 with a 6.55 ERA over his last four starts.

The Orioles are in a big hole this afternoon. They have two hits through four innings off Jered Weaver. They'll need a huge comeback to pull off the series sweep.

Update: There will be no shutout today. Jonathan Schoop blasted a two-run homer to left in the seventh to cut the Angels lead 6-2. Schoop hit No. 8 which, went 433 feet according to Statcast. Schoop has 10 RBIs in his last eight games and is batting .325 over his last 23 games.

Jimenez's outing ended today in the last of the sixth. Jimenez allowed six runs and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings as his ERA is now up to 6.04. He threw 90 pitches, 56 for strikes, and Dylan Bundy came on in the sixth.

The O's starting rotation has produced just two quality starts over the last seven games with an ERA of 5.95. Jimenez has an ERA of 7.16 his last five starts.

That's a final: The Orioles lose 10-2 to the Angels and are not able to get a three-game sweep. The 10 runs allowed matches a season high, first set Tuesday when Seattle scored 10 at Camden Yards.

Bundy gave up four runs in the seventh, three on a homer to left by Carlos Perez, who had four RBIs on the day. Schoop had two of the five Orioles hits.

The Orioles are off tomorrow and take a 26-16 record to the next stop on this trip. They begin a three-game series Tuesday night at Houston.
