More O's minor leaguers are released

The Orioles have released 14 more minor league players as the club continues to reduce its number of players in the minors after trimming two minor league clubs at the end of the 2010 season. Now that the O's no longer need to send players to Bluefield or fill the roster of a second Dominican Summer League squad, some players became expendable. Six of the 14 were taken by the club in either the 2008 or 2009 draft. Preston Hale and Brad Decater were players taken in the 2010 draft. In a first wave of cuts, the O's released eight players. You can see that list here. Here is the list of the latest cuts: *1B/OF T.J. Baxter: Baxter, who turns 25 in December, was drafted by the Orioles in round 24 of 2008. He batted .243-8-34 in 106 games with Delmarva. *RHP Dustin Carder: He was signed by the O's as a non-drafted free agent in June of 2009 and went 1-3, 4.28 in 22 games for Bluefield. *OF Edwin Cintron: A 23rd-round draft pick in 2008, he hit .148 in 26 games at Bluefield. *RHP Jairo De La Cruz: The 23-year-old was signed by the O's out of the Dominican in 2006. Went 0-1, 7.91 in 11 games for Bluefield. *3B Brad DeCater: The 21-year-old was drafted this past June in round 36 out of Cal State-Northridge and hit .213-0-11 in 45 games with Bluefield. *1B/OF Preston Hale: The 22-year-old was taken this year in round 44 from the University of North Florida and hit .269-1-29 in 53 games with the GCL O's. *RHP Derek Hanks: The 23-year-old went 0-2, 3.48 in five games for the GCL O's. *RHP T.R. Keating: The 25-year-old hurler was drafted by the club in round 34 of 2008. He went 2-2, 2.57 in seven games with Delmarva and 3-3, 3.42 in 19 contests with Aberdeen. *LHP Blake Mechaw: The 22-year-old was an O's 26th-round pick in 2009. He went 1-0, 4.97 in 15 games with Aberdeen. *RHP Jesse Rasner: The 24-year-old hurler went 3-0, 2.66 in 15 games between Aberdeen, Delmarva and the GCL Orioles. *RHP Jean Carlos Reyes: The 23-year-old out of the Dominican didn't pitch for an O's affiliate in 2010, but went 6-13, 3.43 from 2006-2009. *OF David Rivera: The 19-year-old Rivera was drafted in round 45 of 2009. He batted .219 in 23 GCL games. *SS Javier Santana: The 23-year-old was signed by the Orioles out of the Dominican in 2005. He batted .195-1-5 in 30 games with Bluefield. *LHP Tyler Sexton: The 25-year-old hurler was a 31st-round O's pick in 2008. He went 2-6, 6.04 in 13 games with Aberdeen in 2010. The O's will not publicly provide any reason why certain players were released. Still more players could be released by the club.
