Mullins out of Orioles lineup for series finale against Marlins

The Orioles are trying today to complete their sixth series sweep before the Dodgers come to town. They’re also attempting to extend their winning streak to a season-high eight games.

The Marlins are starting an opener, left-hander Steven Okert, who retired all four batters last night with three strikeouts.

Manager Brandon Hyde knows that the Marlins are going with a bullpen game today and made out a lineup that includes Colton Cowser in left field, the former first-round pick’s first Camden Yards start. Aaron Hicks is in center and Anthony Santander is in right.

Cedric Mullins is sitting after experiencing tightness last night in his right quadriceps.

Gunnar Henderson is leading off and playing shortstop, with Ramón Urías at third base. Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter.

Jordan Westburg is counted among the reserves.

Santander is batting .370/.469/.704 (10-for-27) with three doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and three walks during a seven-game hitting streak.

Kyle Bradish has allowed one run with 12 strikeouts in 12 innings this month, and six runs in his last five starts over 31 innings. He’s never faced the Marlins.

The Rays lead the Orioles by two games in the American League East.

The Orioles have 69 comeback wins since the start of the 2022 season, tied with the Dodgers for most in the majors.

Closer Félix Bautista notched his 40th career save last night in 106 games, becoming the second-fastest Orioles pitcher by appearances behind former Rookie of the Year Gregg Olson’s 94.

Mike Baumann has nine scoreless outings in a row at Camden Yards since June 9.

Okert, a former fourth-round pick of the Giants in 2012 out of the University of Oklahoma, has made 37 appearances and registered a 2.43 ERA and 0.870 WHIP with 46 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings. He hasn’t gone more than two innings.

Okert has allowed only one run this month in 5 1/3 innings. Left-handers are batting .133/.204/.222 against him this season, and right-handers are batting .174/.260/.362.

The current Orioles are a collective 0-for-6 lifetime against Okert.

The Marlins lost a series to the Orioles for only the second time in team history.
