Nationals' Milone three-run shot; but Bay blast ties it 6-6 (updated)

Making his major league debut already one to remember, Nationals left-hander Tommy Milone hit a three-run homer into the right field bullpen in the second inning to give Washington a 5-0 advantage. Early on, things looked good for Milone. He fired 13 pitches, 10 for strikes in a 1-2-3 first frame, getting a groundout and a pair of flyouts against Jose Reyes, Justin Turner and Lucas Duda. He also enjoyed a three up, three down second inning, which included his first major league strikeout of Angel Pagan. The Nationals led off their half of the first with a home run curving just around the inside of the left field foul pole by Ian Desmond, against Dillon Gee, and the Nationals led, 1-0. It was the third time the Nationals have led off the game with a home run this season. It was the first time Desmond has hit a home run in the first inning in his career. In the second, the Nationals really got rolling against Gee with an RBI double by Jesus Flores and the stunning three-run shot by Milone. Nationals lead 5-0. Ronny Paulino notched the first base hit off of Milone in the third. Milone had set down the first seven batters he faced. But in the fourth inning, the Mets started their come back with four runs on RBI base hits from David Wright and Pagan, plus a two-run shot off the bat of Nick Evans. Milone managed to get out of the inning, but after one out and one hit in the fifth, his night was done. He finished 4 1/3 innings, scattering six hits, four runs, all earned, no walks and two strikeouts, on 74 pitches, 51 for strikes. Roger Bernadina provided some insurance with a solo homer in the fifth. But Nationals reliever Tom Gorzelanny allowed a two-run shot to Jason Bay to tie the game, 6-6 in the sixth.
