Notes and stats from the series finale at San Fran

Another day where the Orioles got few clutch hits, left many on base and lost. San Fran beat the Birds 6-3 on Wednesday as the Orioles still have won just two series all year. The O's had 11 hits, all singles, and left 13 men on base. They are 2-18-2 in series on the year. Other notes from the O's 48th loss: Sit down when you are looking at these numbers: The Orioles have now lost 17 of 20 and 19 of their last 23. They are 6-24 over the last 30 games. After beginning the year 2-16, they then went 10-8, but are 6-24 since then for an overall record of 18-48. The Orioles were 29-37 after 66 games last year. The offense vs. the Giants: The Orioles had 28 hits in this series but went 3 for 14 today with runners in scoring position and went 5 for 33 (.152) in the series with RISP. They scored nine runs in the three games. In Wednesday's game, the Orioles had 11 hits, but all 11 were singles while six of San Fran's 11 hits went for extra bases. The Orioles are now 1-5 on the year in games they play where a victory would give them a series win. Julio Lugo went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI for his first multi-RBI game all year and first three-hit game since May 27. He entered the game in a 4 for 27 slump. Corey Patterson went 0 for 4 after batting .400 during a six-game hitting streak. Adam Jones, who had been batting .342 over his previous ten games, went 0 for 5. Miguel Tejada went 2 for 5 and is 14 for 38 (.368) over his last nine contests. Nick Markakis went 2 for 4 and is batting .371 (13 for 35) over his last nine games with seven doubles.

More woeful offense: The Orioles have scored 42 runs over the last 18 games. They have hit just four homers over the last 11 games and 413 at bats. They remain the only team in Major League baseball without a homer from a first baseman on the year. With this loss they fall to 2-39 when scoring three runs or less and are 16-9 when scoring four runs or more. Taking on the NL: After going 11-7 in interleague games last year, the Orioles are now 2-7. Their fewest wins in one season in interleague is the five they recorded in 1998, 2003 and 2004. San Diego series pitching probables: Fri at 10:05p: Brian Matusz (2-7, 4.92) vs. LH Wade LeBlanc (4-4, 3.05). Sat at 8:35p: Kevin Millwood (0-8, 5.16) vs. LH Clayton Richard (4-3, 2.71). Sun at 4:05p: Jake Arrieta (2-0, 2.77) vs. RH Jon Garland (6-4, 2.81).
