Notes from the Majors and Minors

The Orioles are still looking for their first win this year vs. Toronto and are now 0-7 after Friday's 4-2 loss to the Jays. The O's lost 7-6 to Toronto in the first game this year between the clubs. They have scored just seven runs in their past six games with the Jays and have been out-homered this year 15 to 1 in the season series. The O's are batting .216 on the season with 13 runs scored vs. Toronto. The Birds bullpen posted three innings of shutout, one-hit ball vs. Toronto last night. Over the last six games, the O's bullpen has not allowed an earned run over 20 2/3 innings. That has lowered the bullpen ERA on the year from 4.75 to 4.39. Last night's loss was the O's 60th defeat on the year and came in their 89th game. Last year they lost their 60th in game 104 on August 2nd and were 44-60 at that point. Some notes from around the minors: *Frederick's Jacob Julius hit two homers last night vs. Wilmington and has hit five homers over his last six games. A 33rd-round draft pick out of the University of Arkansas in 2007, Julius has an eight-game hitting streak riding. During the stretch, he is 10 for 29 with five homers and 15 RBI. He leads the Keys with 12 homers. *Bowie's Brandon Waring has picked it up a bit at bat this month. He is hitting .306-3-10 in 13 July games. Waring has two homers and 6 RBI over his past four games. He has 22 doubles and 15 homers on the season for the Baysox. *By the way, last year Eric Crozier and Brandon Snyder led the Baysox as each hit 10 homers. Already this season, Bowie has four players with ten or more. Joel Guzman has 19, Waring 15 while Caleb Joseph and Tyler Henson have 10 each. *This year's fourth-round pick, Trent Mummey, continues to excel at Aberdeen. He is batting .313-2-12 with 9 doubles over 19 games. He is batting .421 with runners in scoring position and recently hit a walk-off Grand Slam for the IronBirds. *Blair Dunlap, the O's 43rd-round draft pick out of UCLA, played his first game for Aberdeen on Friday night. He started in right field and went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI.
