O's game blog: A chance for a sweep this afternoon against Miami

The Orioles have four three-game sweeps this year - three at Camden Yards - and will try to add to the list today against the Miami Marlins. The O's have posted 5-2 and 6-5 wins to start this series and homestand.

They now have 33 comeback wins, tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the most in the major leagues. Since the start of 2022, they have 69 wins in games they have trailed, tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the most in the majors over that period.

The Orioles fell behind 4-0 in the second inning last night, but in the home half cut that to 4-3. Down 5-3, they scored once in the fifth to trail 5-4. They scored twice in the seventh to tie the game and take the lead. A lead they would hold onto.

So that is now a seven-game win streak for the Orioles. That ties their season high from April 16-24. They had a plus-16 run differential in the earlier win streak. It is plus-39 in the current win streak.

The Orioles have outscored their last seven opponents, 55-16.

This streak includes wins by three and 13 at New York, by two, four and 13 at Minnesota, and by three and one against Miami.

During the win streak, the Orioles have batted .403 (29-for-72) with runners in scoring position after going 4-for-10 last night.

In the last three games, the Orioles have scored 26 runs on 39 hits and blasted 10 home runs.

Baltimore pitching has allowed three runs or fewer in six of the seven wins, allowing just 16 runs total in the span.

Baltimore starting pitchers have a 2.47 ERA and six quality starts during the win streak. They have eight QS the last 11 games, and a rotation ERA of 2.70 in that span.

Right-hander Félix Bautista earned his 40th career save Saturday night, becoming the second-fastest Oriole by appearances (106) to reach the mark in team history, behind Gregg Olson (94). As of the end of that game, he ranked tied for second in the American League and tied for fourth in majors with 25 saves. He has allowed just two baserunners (on two walks) in five appearances this month (6 1/3 innings) while striking out 11 of the 18 total batters faced.

Righty Mike Baumann earned his sixth win of the season after working 1 2/3 scoreless innings on one hit with one walk and one strikeout. He is the only pitcher in the majors this season with six wins and zero losses and has tossed nine consecutive scoreless outings (8 1/3 innings) at Oriole Park since June 9.

Infielder Gunnar Henderson launched a solo shot to tie the game in the seventh inning, his 14th longball of the season. That marked his first career game-tying home run in the seventh inning or later.

The Orioles are going for a fifth three-game sweep today after taking three in a row in April at home versus Detroit, in May at Toronto, in June versus Kansas City at home and then last weekend at Minnesota.

Right-hander Kyle Bradish (5-4, 3.32 ERA) will make his 17th start for the Orioles today in the series finale. The club is 10-6 in his outings on the season. In his last start, which was July 6 at Yankee Stadium in a 14-1 win, Bradish threw six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits on 92 pitches. He is pitching today on nine days’ rest.

Bradish has been pitching very well, and over an extended period of time. In 11 starts since May 12, he is 4-3 with a 2.52 ERA. In that span he has allowed a .217 batting average and .589 OPS against. In a shorter time frame, he has thrown five straight starts in which he's allowed no more than two earned runs. In that time span, he is 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA, .184 batting average and .530 OPS.

For the year, over 84 innings he has allowed 76 hits, including eight homers, with 23 walks and 79 strikeouts. He has a 1.179 WHIP with a 2.5 walk rate and 8.5 strikeout rate. Lefty batters hit .263 with a .716 OPS versus Bradish, and right-handers bat .224/.621.

In five interleague starts this season, he is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA. In eight over his career, he is 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA, a .239 batting average against and .684 OPS.
