O's game blog: Dylan Bundy faces Tigers at Oriole Park

The Orioles last had a two-game winning streak on May 6 when they wrapped up wins versus Tampa Bay and Boston around a rainout. They'll try for two in a row tonight when they host Detroit at Camden Yards.

Renato Núñez hit a two-run homer, his 13th, and Jonathan Villar's 456-foot solo shot was No. 7 in Monday's 5-3 win over the Tigers at Oriole Park. Núñez has hit five homers his last six games and six in his last eight. Nunez has recorded an RBI in a career-high six straight games, totaling 11 RBIs in this stretch. His 31 RBIs rank tied for first on the team with Dwight Smith Jr.

Hanser Alberto led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single, and later scored on the Núñez homer. Alberto hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three doubles, one home run, and four RBIs in five games in the leadoff spot. He is batting .418 (23-for-55) against left-handed pitching, the highest average in the majors. Monday was his 10th multi-hit game of the season after doubling in the fourth inning.

Against lefties, he is batting .077 (2-for-26), compared to a .309 (25-for-81) clip against righties. Wilkerson recorded his first career outfield assist on a 9-6-5 double play in the top of the fifth inning. Since making his first career major league start in the outfield on April 22, he has not committed an error.

Yesterday's game marked the ninth time this season in which the O's did not allow a home run. They are 8-1 in such games, compared to 9-36 when allowing at least one homer.

Right-hander Dylan Bundy (2-5, 4.67 ERA) gets the start tonight. In four starts this month, Bundy is 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA, a 0.972 WHIP and a batting average against of .176. Over his last six starts, Bundy has a 3.12 ERA with two quality starts and missed two others by a single out.

Bundy has held opposing three-hole hitters to a .095 average (2-for-21) with no home runs and six strikeouts. That ranks as the third-lowest in the American League and sixth-lowest in the majors. For his career, opposing three-hole hitters are batting just .204 (47-for-230) against Bundy, which is his lowest clip against any spot in the lineup.

Detroit will start lefty Matthew Boyd (4-4, 3.11 ERA) tonight. He's making his 12th start and has eight quality starts, which is two fewer than the entire O's team. Boyd ranks fourth in the AL in WHIP (1.01), fifth in strikeouts (80) and ninth in innings (66 2/3). He threw six scoreless innings versus Miami in his last start.

The Orioles (17-37) are 7-19 at home and 7-17 in May. They are 5-12 in games versus AL Central teams. Detroit (19-32) has lost three in a row and 12 of the last 13 games. The Tigers are 6-6 against the AL East and 14-10 in games decided by two runs or less.

Single-A Frederick pitchers Blaine Knight and Cody Sedlock are at Camden Yards today. They met players and coaches and did a round of interviews. You'll see some of that here on Wednesday morning.
