O's game blog: Dylan Bundy on the mound this afternoon at New York

NEW YORK - After a 14-4 loss in the series opener on Friday night, the Orioles are hoping some baseball in the daylight will lead to a victory today.

It will take more than sunshine. They'll need to pitch better. The O's staff has allowed 62 runs over the last eight games. In that span, they've given up eight earned runs or more four times with an ERA of 7.71.

The Orioles are 5-6 against the Yankees this year and 4-12 at Yankee Stadium since Sept. 25, 2014. New York is a season-high five games over .500 at 66-61 and the Yankees are 13-7 their last 20 home games, winning all seven home series in that span.

O's right-hander Dylan Bundy (7-4, 3.33 ERA) will try to slow their roll today when he faces right-hander Chad Green (2-3, 3.66 ERA).

Dylan-Bundy-gray-sidebar.jpgBundy is 5-3 with a 3.56 ERA in his eight starts. Over 43 innings, he has allowed 32 hits with 14 walks, 42 strikeouts and a .204 batting average against. Over his last five starts, he is 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA and .194 average. He has faced New York twice in relief this season and has given up seven hits and three runs over 3 2/3 innings.

When Bundy has pitched with runners in scoring position this year, he allows an average against of just .197. When he pitches with RISP and two outs, that drops to .194.

Green has pitched well his past two starts, allowing seven hits and one run over 12 innings against Toronto and the Los Angeles Angels. He walked just one with 16 strikeouts. In five games (two starts) at home this year, he is 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA.

He has struggled in the first inning of his outings with an ERA of 12.00, a .414 batting average against and has allowed five homers in six innings in the opening frame this year. In one appearance against the Orioles on July 21 out of the bullpen, he gave up two hits but no runs over 2 1/3 innings.

The Orioles currently have 199 home runs this season and today is game No. 129 for Baltimore. According to STATS, LLC., at least one home run today would be the second-fewest number of games to reach 200 home runs in Orioles history. At least one home run today would tie the 2016 Orioles for fifth-fastest all-time. The 1996 team hit its 200th homer in game No. 126.

The 2016 Orioles are the 13th team in major league history to have at least three players with 30 or more home runs prior to September 1. The 2000 Anaheim Angels own the major league record with four players with 30 before September.

The Orioles are also closing in a fifth straight season with 200 or more homers:

2012 - 214
2013 - 212
2014 - 211
2015 - 217
