O's game blog: O's going for a sweep of the Texas Rangers

The Orioles (38-44) have not had a three-game series sweep this season, and after back-to-back walk-off wins over the Texas Rangers, they can get one with a victory tonight at Oriole Park.

Cedric Mullins' RBI double in the 10th last night lifted the Orioles over Texas 10-9 in a wild one. The victory improved the Orioles' record to 20-17 at home and to 6-3 in extra-inning games.

Most walk-off wins in the major leagues in 2022:

10 - New York Yankees
7 - Orioles
6 - San Diego
5 - Tampa Bay, Minnesota

The Orioles have now secured the series win versus Texas and have gone 11-11-4 in series this season and 7-4-2 in home series. They've already surpassed their home series win total from 2021, when they went 5-15-6 at Oriole Park. And now they are one series win shy of tying their overall total from last season, when they went 12-32-8.

All six of Baltimore's extra-inning wins this season have come at Oriole Park, where they've gone 6-1, the most home extra-inning wins in the majors.

According to STATS, the last time the O's had three consecutive walk-off wins of any kind was from June 26-27, 1954 - the team's first year in Charm City - against the Philadelphia Athletics. That run included both ends of a doubleheader.

Best records in the American League since May 19:

.690 - Houston (29-13)

.682 - New York Yankees (30-14), Boston (30-14)

.545 - Orioles (24-20) and Toronto (24-20)

Mullins finished last night's game 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, three RBIs and two walks, reaching base safely a season-high five times, one shy of his career high. He reached six times on April 4, 2021 at Boston. Since last season, Mullins has five games in which he has reached base safely at least five times, the most in the majors.

Mullins is hitting .391/.453/.587 (18-for-46) with six doubles, one home run, eight runs scored, nine RBIs, six walks and a stolen base in his last 11 starts since June 23; he has hit safely in 10 of the 11, including seven multi-hit games.

On the season, Mullins has 30 extra-base hits and 16 stolen bases, and he is one of three players in the big leagues with at least 30 extra-base hits and 15 steals, along with Seattle's Julio Rodríguez (33 XBH/21 SB) and the Dodgers' Trea Turner (33 XBH/16 SB).

The Orioles are currently on a seven-game homestand, during which they play three games against the Rangers and four games against the Los Angeles Angels from July 7-10 before a scheduled off-day on Monday, July 11. The Orioles then hit the road again for a five-game trip, including two games in Chicago against the Cubs from July 12-13, a scheduled off-day on Thursday, July 14, and three games in Tampa Bay against the Rays from July 15-17. The current homestand marks Baltimore's last before the All-Star break, which runs from July 18-21.

On the mound tonight for the Orioles is right-hander Spenser Watkins (1-1, 4.61 ERA), who will pitch opposite Texas righty Glenn Otto (4-4, 5.63 ERA).
