O's tie it, 3-3 in 8th (w-updates)

The O's trailed the Red Sox 2-0 after three frames at Fenway. In the Boston second, David Ortiz, hitting .146 with no homers, hit a homer out to left center on a Jeremy Guthrie 2-1 pitch. Guthrie had retired the first five batters. In the Sox third, Guthrie walked number eight hitter Jeremy Hermida to lead the inning and he reached third before scoring on a J.D Drew sac fly. After throwing just 12 pitches in the first, Guthrie threw 19 in the second and 29 in the third for 60 on the night. The O's missed a chance to score in the second when SS Marco Scutaro made a big mental mistake. With a man on first and one out, the O's starter the runner on a 3-2 pitch to Nolan Reimold. Scutaro fielded his grounder and threw late to second base. But Garrett Atkins then hit into a double play to kill that rally. Lester is at 47 pitches through three innings. The O's only hit so far is a Nick Markakis double in the first. He is now 8 for 36 in his career vs. Lester. Update: The O's got a two-out rally going in the fourth with a hit and two walks. But on the seventh pitch of his at bat, Garrett Atkins took a called third strike as the O's left the bases loaded. Atkins now has just six hits in his last 36 at bats. He has stranded five runners on base tonight. Triple A update: Chris Tillman has pitched five shutout innings on just 54 pitches tonight for Norfolk vs. Charlotte. Update three: In the O's sixth, they loaded the bases with two outs. Lester was removed for Daniel Bard. The batter was Atkins, up for the third time in the game with multiple runners on the bases. He got ahead on the count 2-0 and then swung and hit a fly to short center to strand the bases loaded. Atkins is 0 for 3 in this game and has left eight runners on base. Jon Lester kept giving the O's chances, but they didn't take advantage, so he winds up with 5 2/3 scoreless tonight after entering with an ERA of 8.44. He threw 113 pitches. If he gets this win, he will improve to 11-0, 2.22 vs. the Orioles. I don't know how Jeremy Guthrie keeps his poise watching this team not score for him start after start. Update four: In the seventh, Adam Jones snapped an 0 for 15 run with a two-run homer off Bard to pull the O's within 3-2. Jones crushed a 3-2 pitch into the seats over the Green Monster for his second homer of the year and first since Opening Day. That snapped a 21 2/3 innings scoreless run by the Boston bullpen. Hideki Okajima comes on to replace Bard. Update five: The O's have rallied from 3-0 down to tie tonight's game 3-3 in the 8th. Matt Wieters led off the frame with a double and Julio Lugo came on to pinch run. Manny Delcarmen then came in for Okajima. After a walk put runners on first and second with no outs, Garrett Atkins dropped a bunt to third. Adrian Beltre made a crazy/gutsy decision to throw to second base and an out was called. Replays made it look like a tie play. Later in the inning, pinch-hitter Luke Scott hit an RBI grounder to score Lugo for the tie.
