Orioles and Guardians lineups in Cleveland

CLEVELAND – The Orioles’ magic number is down to seven to clinch the American League East, and they begin their final road series of the regular season with Aaron Hicks playing right field.

Hicks was out of the lineup the past two days after leaving Monday’s game with hamstring cramps.

Jordan Westburg is the third baseman tonight and Gunnar Henderson is the shortstop.

Anthony Santander is serving as the designated hitter. Ryan O’Hearn is batting cleanup and playing first base.

Rookie Grayson Rodriguez is making his 22nd start. He’s never faced the Guardians.

Rodriguez is solidifying his spot in the postseason rotation. He tossed eight scoreless innings against the Rays on Saturday and has allowed three runs or fewer in his last 10 outings.

The Orioles have scored 776 runs this season, their highest total since totaling 782 in 2008.

The Angels are leading the Rays today 4-3 in the seventh inning.

The Guardians were slow to name their starter, rookie Hunter Gaddis. He was confirmed this morning.

Gaddis has a 4.85 ERA and 1.333 WHIP this season in 10 games (six starts). His last start was May 28 against the Cardinals, when he allowed three runs – all on solo homers – in 4 2/3 innings.

His last appearance with the Guardians was Aug. 29, when he earned the win after allowing one run in three relief innings in Minnesota.

Cleveland is 72-81 and nine games behind the first-place Twins. The Guardians were just swept in a three-game series in Kansas City.

The Orioles lost two of three against the Guardians in a May series at Camden Yards. They won two of three in Cleveland last summer.

They’re 190-243 all-time at Progressive Field. Their last three-game sweep came in 1987.

The Guardians are 19-11 (.633) against the Orioles since the start of the 2018 season, their third-best record against any single opponent over that span in a minimum of 10 games, per STATS.
