Orioles and Red Sox lineups in series opener at Camden Yards

The Orioles will try to extend their winning streak to seven games tonight in the series opener against the Red Sox at Camden Yards.

They’ve won eight of their last nine games and 10 of 11.

Austin Hays is leading off and Cedric Mullins is batting seventh. James McCann is catching and Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter.

Adam Frazier is batting ninth and playing second base.

Dean Kremer will try to duplicate or build on his last start in D.C., when he tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings with no walks and six strikeouts. His first 2023 start came at Fenway Park, where he allowed five runs and six hits with two home runs – from Alex Verdugo and Adam Duvall - over three innings.

Kremer is 0-4 with a 7.76 ERA and 1.763 WHIP in six career starts against the Red Sox. Verdugo is 5-for-14 with two doubles and a home run.

Left-hander Chris Sale has allowed 16 earned runs and 17 total with 21 hits, nine walks and 30 strikeouts in 18 innings over his four starts this season. But he held the Twins to one run and three hits with 11 strikeouts Tuesday night in Boston.

The Orioles saw Sale on April 1 and collected seven runs and seven hits in three innings. Hays, Mullins and Ryan Mountcastle hit home runs.

Duvall went 8-for-14 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, eight RBIs and six runs scored in the opening three-game series, but he’s on the injured list with a fractured wrist.

Masataka Yoshida homered twice in the eighth inning yesterday, including a grand slam, in a 12-5 win over the Brewers. No other batter has done that since Edwin Encarnación with the Blue Jays on July 26, 2013.

The Red Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have won three straight series for the first time since last June.

Nine of the Red Sox’s 12 wins have been the comeback variety. They’re in last place, but one game above .500.
