Orioles claim Joey Terdoslavich off waivers (updated)

The Orioles claimed infielder/outfielder Joey Terdoslavich off waivers today from the Braves, occupying the final open spot on their 40-man roster.

Terdoslavich, a switch-hitter who attended Sarasota High School near the Ed Smith Stadium complex, is a career .280/.345/.451 hitter in 604 career minor league games. He's batted .221/.296/.324 in 92 games with the Braves over the past three seasons.

In 28 games with the Braves last season, Terdoslavich hit .214/.254/.375 and rode the shuttle between Atlanta and Gwinnett.

The Braves selected Terdoslavich in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of California State University Long Beach. He's the nephew of former Red Sox outfielder Mike Greenwell.

Terdoslavich has played first base, left field and right field in the majors. He's also played third base in the minors.

Though the 40-man roster is full, the Orioles obviously can clear room for other acquisitions.

Update: Executive vice president Dan Duquette wrote in a text message that Terdoslavich could compete for a bench spot. Terdoslavich also has a minor league option.
