Orioles lineup vs. Athletics (updated with roster moves)

Gunnar Henderson’s fourth major league game won’t put him at a fourth different position.

Henderson is starting at third base and batting fifth tonight against the Athletics at Camden Yards.

Kyle Stowers is in right field. Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Adley Rutschman is catching after his pinch-hit, bases-loaded walk last night that broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning.

Rutschman, Henderson and Stowers were the first three Orioles draft selections in 2019.

Austin Voth has a 2.72 ERA and 1.140 WHIP in 16 games with the Orioles. He’s allowed 11 runs in his last 43 1/3 innings.

Voth has never faced the Athletics.

The Orioles remain 1 ½ games out of third place and for the last wild card spot. They’re won three in a row.

Last night marked the club’s 21st win without hitting a home run, ranking fourth in the majors.

Rookie right-hander Adam Oller is 2-6 with 5.66 ERA and 1.522 WHIP in 17 games, including 12 stars. He’s averaging 4.5 walks and 5.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

Oller’s last start was his finest. He held the Yankees to one hit over eight scoreless innings for his third consecutive quality start.

The Pirates selected Oller in the 20th round of the 2016 draft out of Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and they released him two years later. The Giants signed him in 2019, the Mets selected him in the Rule 5 draft later that year, and they sent him to Oakland in March in the Chris Bassitt trade.

The Orioles claimed pitcher Anthony Castro off waivers from the Guardians and designated pitcher Phoenix Sanders for assignment. They also announced that infielder Richie Martin cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk.

The 40-man roster remains full.

Castro, 27, has pitched for three teams in three seasons – the Tigers, Blue Jays and Guardians. He made 12 relief appearances for Cleveland this summer and allowed 11 earned runs (15 total) and 19 hits with 10 walks and 12 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings. He owns a 6.00 ERA and 1.590 WHIP in 38 major league games, with 45 strikeouts in 39 innings.

In the minors, Castro has registered a 3.47 ERA and 1.300 WHIP in nine seasons and 161 games.

Castro was optioned to Norfolk.

The Orioles selected Sanders off waivers from the Rays on Aug. 24 and didn’t bring him to the majors.
