Post-game Notes: Guthrie and O's top Texas

Guts with a win - Jeremy Guthrie and two relievers teamed on a 7-hit shutout in the O's 7-0 win over Texas Sunday. Guthrie, now 10-13, 4.96, worked seven innings and gave up six hits and one walk and had six strikeouts. Guthrie threw 110 pitches, 73 for strikes as he lowered his ERA under 5.00 for the first time since May 30th. Over his last four starts, Guthrie is 3-1 1.33 (4ER over 27 IP). Guthrie has allowed 1ER or less in three of his last four starts. It's the second time this year he has not allowed any runs. He worked six scoreless vs. Tampa on April 11 in his second start of the year. In seven starts this year in day games, Guthrie is 5-1, 3.33. The O's have three shutouts on the year: April 11: O's 6 Tampa 0 June 1st: O's 1 Seattle 0 September 6: O's 7 Texas 0 On April 11, Guthrie pitched five-hit ball over six innings and the O's held TB to eight hits. On June 1st, Rich Hill, Jim Johnson and George Sherrill teamed on a two-hitter. Hill gave up two hits over seven frames. The O's retired the last 20 Mariner batters in that contest. After allowing 24 runs on 39 hits in the three-game series vs. the Yankees, the O's staff gave up just nine runs on 21 hits in taking two of three from Texas. Over the last 16 games, O's starters have pitched to an ERA of 3.28. Series victory - It was just the second O's series win since the All-Star break. They took two of three at Chicago August 21-23. The Orioles are 2-11-2 in 15 series in the second half. The O's are 7-6 on the year when they play the third game of a series after splitting the first two. Chad Moeller had two hits including a two-run double. Over his last four games, he is 7 for 12 with three doubles, a homer and 5 RBI. Jeff Fiorentino, in his first start since his callup from Triple-A, was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI singles. He picked up his first hit in the Major Leagues since March 26, 2008 when he singled for Oakland vs. Boston in a game played in Japan. It was his first hit in the U.S in the Majors since September 30, 2006 at Boston. Brian Roberts went 2 for 5 with a two-run single to snap a 5 for 41 stretch. He remains one double shy of 50 for the season. Ty Wigginton had three hits, two doubles in the win. He finished this homestand going 11 for 30 (.367). Wigginton tied his season high with three hits. The O's end the season series with Texas winning five of the ten meetings. The O's went 3-4 in Baltimore and 2-1 in Arlington vs. the Rangers. Today's attendance was 21,599. The 71-date season total is 1,710,189 for an average attendance of 24,087. The Orioles are now 56-81 on the year, 34-37 at home, 15-24 in day games, 12-23 vs. the AL West and 38-31 when they score first. After an off day Monday, the Orioles begin a five-game road trip to Boston and New York with a two game series beginning Tuesday at Fenway Park.
