Post-game Notes: Tillman takes first ML loss

O's pitching has been hampered by the longball all year, especially in the last few games. Chris Tillman allowed three solo homers tonight and the O's have allowed six homers in two games in this series. The Birds have allowed 12 homers over the last four games and 37 in the last 22 games. Tillman time - Tillman, now 1-1, 4.80 through five Major League starts, gave up three runs and seven his over six innings. He walked two and fanned three, throwing 101 pitches. Still, Tillman has recorded three straight quality starts. Tillman's first two starts: 6.75 ERA Tillman's last three starts: 3.72 ERA Not tonight - Nick Markakis went 0 for 4 with a flyout and three groundouts. That ended his batting streak at 11 games. He hit .408 with 20 hits during the streak. Markakis is now batting .417 (15 for 36) over his last eight games with six multi-hit games. Tonight ended a streak where Markakis had reached base safely in 38 straight games - the longest current streak in the Majors. The O's record is 52 in a row by Kevin Millar in 2007. Doubling Up - Brian Roberts went 2 for 4 with a double and solo homer. Roberts is batting .381 (16 for 42) during a nine-game batting streak. He has eight doubles during the streak, 18 in his last 31 games and 46 on the year to lead the AL. Should he reach 50, he would become the 4th player in ML history with three or more 50-double seasons, joining Tris Speaker, Paul Waner and Stan Musial. The O's have scored three runs or less now nine times in the last 14 games and 16 times in 32 games since the All-Star break. They are 1-15 in those 16 games. The O's have lost the first two games of this series by three combined runs. For the O's, 13 of their last 23 losses are by two runs or less. The O's have now lost five in a row, 9 of 11 and 35 of the past 51 games. They are 4-5 vs. Tampa and 8-24 since the All-Star break.
