Here are some comments from the clubhouse after Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Tampa. Brad Bergesen talked about his outing, after he gave up five runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings: "It was a tough outing, just one of those where I battled and tried to keep the team in it. The (seven) strikeouts were irrelevant. Compared to the hits today, it was kind of a hot and cold day. Didn't make good execution pitches when I needed to, with two strikes and that's what really hurt me today. "My last three outings I have given up runs early in the game and put our team in a hole. At this level, it's all about the momentum and early on the opposing team is having the momentum on their side. "That's my goal (going deep in the game) whether the bullpen is taxed or not. It's my goal every game. "Every outing, I know the (pitching) line sometimes doesn't show it, but I feel a pitch away or one little break away, from having real solid outings right now. I'm confident that I will keep plugging along and keep battling." Bergesen tied his career high with seven strikeouts. He extends his career-high losing streak to six games. Jason Berken talked about issuing a bases-loaded walk to Evan Longoria in the sixth: "That's the last thing you want there. I was just trying to make a quality pitch down in the zone and I didn't do that. "I was just trying to go after him and get ahead with my slider. I fell behind 2-0 and got a strike to go 2-1. The 2-1 pitch was the big pitch for me, you don't want go 3-1. So I was trying to make a quality pitch, but missed down. The 2-1 pitch was the difference in that at bat. Wasn't able to get ahead or make the good pitch. That was the difference." Ty Wigginton said the O's were better the second time through the order vs. James Shields: "You know that goes for every game. You are making adjustments. We started to make a little comeback there and tied the score. "What makes Shields so effective is everything is down in the zone. He doesn't make mistakes up. Talk to our pitchers and that's the goal to live at the hitter's knees and he did that." The Rays now lead the season series, 7-2 and the all-time series, 107-106. Nick Markakis doubled in the fifth today to snap an 0 for 14 stretch that tied his longest drought of the year. He also went 14 at bats without a hit from June 3-6 and his average on the year is now .299. Ty Wigginton hit a two-run homer today after homering last night. It's the third time this year he has homered in back-to-back games. He also had a double and it's his fifth game on the year with multiple extra-base hits and his first since June 14 at San Francisco.
