Rendon and Skole selected to AFL Top Prospects Team

The Arizona Fall League announced its Top Prospects Team and a pair of Nationals prospects made the list. Both are third basemen - Anthony Rendon and Matt Skole. The team was put together by AFL managers and coaches. The Top Prospects Team recognizes players who distinguished themselves throughout the league's six-week 2012 schedule against other top prospects from every organization in Major League Baseball. Voters also were asked to consider AFL performance and major league projectability. Rendon continued to get a lot of playing time as he bounced back from a fractured ankle sustained in April that could have jeopardized his season. Being selected to the Top Prospects Team further signals that he is back from the injury and he believes the injury was a fluke and not an example of a chronic ankle problem. Playing for the Salt River Rafters, Rendon hit .338 in 22 games, with 10 doubles, one triple, six stolen bases and 11 RBIs. Skole played first base exclusively for the Rafters, and said playing the position was good for him to show his versatility and that he enjoyed being at the other corner. Skole made the Top Prospects Team as a designated hitter. Skole hit .305 in 17 games with four doubles, three homers and 15 RBIs. You have to feel like Brian Goodwin had to be close to selection to the team too, with 11 extra-base hits, but his average was just .238. He pretty much did everything else for the Rafters, and played well in the Rising Stars Game.
