Saturday minor league notes

Delmarva and Frederick play games today and tomorrow and that will end their respective first halves and bring those two clubs to their All-Star breaks. Delmarva is playing well and takes a five-game win streak into tonight's home game vs. Lexington. The Shorebirds have allowed just nine runs during their season-high win streak. Delmarva has now won eight in a row at Perdue Stadium, its longest home win streak since taking ten in a row there in July and August of 2005. Kieron Pope continues his amazing comeback after missing all of last year and the start of this year with a broken right femur. Pope is batting .355-3-20 in 24 games. He currently has a 12-game batting streak and is hitting .422 with two homers and 15 RBI during the streak. T.J. Baxter has reached base safely in 21 straight Delmarva games and leads all O's minor leaguers with 20 steals. P Jesse Beal, OF Brian Conley and SS Garabez Rosa will play in the Sally League All-Star game on Tuesday. Conley is expected to start in right field. Frederick improved to 40-28 with Friday's win at Myrtle Beach. This is the second time in the Keys 22-year team history the club has recorded 40 wins in the first half. They also did it in 1997. Ryan Berry, who is 1-0, 2.63 in five Frederick starts, pitches for the Keys tonight. Keys SS Greg Miclat is 8 for 18 during a five-game batting streak and had four hits on Friday. Miclat is now batting .312 in 46 games, 8th best in the Carolina League and has an OBP of .407, which is 4th in the league. He is batting .356 in June. Miclat will play in the Carolina League/California League All-Star game on Tuesday night along with Keys outfielder Ronnie Welty and pitcher Jose Duran. Lefty Zach Britton pitches for Bowie at home vs. Harrisburg tonight. Britton is 6-3, 2.84 on the year with the current fifth best ERA in the Eastern League. He is 4-0, 1.42 over his last six starts. The Baysox are 35-32. Triple-A Norfolk plays at Toledo tonight. The Tides are 30-39 on the year. Josh Bell is batting .325 over his last 22 games with 10 doubles and 10 multi-hit games in that time. Three Tides are on the DL. Joey Gathright, with a lower back strain, went on June 6th. Kam Mickolio with a right shoulder strain, went on June 14 and Andy Mitchell with a hamstring injury, went on June 18. Aberdeen looks for a 2-0 start at home tonight vs. Hudson Valley. RHP Scott Copeland, drafted this year in round 21 out of Southern Miss, gets the ball tonight. Bluefield plays its season opener on Tuesday at Pulaski and the Gulf Coast League O's open Monday vs. the GCL Twins.
