Scott's knee still sore (and other notes)

Luke Scott's right knee remains sore after he slammed into the left field fence last night, so it's doubtful that he'll be in tonight's lineup. Scott will continue to ice the knee. Meanwhile, you can list him as day-to-day, like the rest of us. Scott bruised his knee while making a leaping catch to rob the Cardinals' Matt Holliday of a home run in the top of the ninth inning. He wanted to bat in the bottom half of the inning, but manager Buck Showalter sent up rookie Blake Davis. Right-hander Chris Carpenter is starting tonight for the Cardinals, so Felix Pie is expected to play left field. He's never faced Carpenter. Neither has Nolan Reimold, in case you were wondering. He would be the other left field option tonight. Vladimir Guerrero is 6-for-13 with a home run against Carpenter. Mark Reynolds is 4-for-8. Scott, who's is 3-for-14 with two doubles against Carpenter, can add a bruised knee to his list of ailments. He's also got a sore right shoulder, and he left a June 18 game in Washington because of back spasms. Meanwhile, Double-A Bowie catcher Caleb Joseph, center fielder Xavier Avery and left-hander Pedro Viola will represent the Western Division in the 2011 Eastern League All-Star Game on July 13 in Manchester, N.H. Joseph leads the Baysox with a .272 average and ranks third in home runs with six and RBIs with 29. He's also thrown out nearly one-third of runners attempting to steal, and he has three passed balls in 379 innings. LukeScottOutline2.jpgAvery is batting .268, is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 21 and ranks second with 17 doubles. Viola is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA and two saves in 23 appearances and 27 innings. He made one appearing with the Orioles, tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out two. There's a tape outline of Luke Scott's body on the left field fence (pictured at right), with the left arm extended above it. Must be arts and crafts day at Camden Yards.
