A June swoon for Machado and other notes

Two words: Don't panic. Manny Machado homered in his second at-bat in the Carolina League, but he is hitting just .158 at 3-for-19 in six games with Single-A Frederick. I don't think anyone in the O's organization is worried in the least about a player who is playing in that league at the age of 18. Machado doesn't turn 19 until July 6. Before Machado was promoted to Frederick, he had been struggling some this month with Single-A Delmarva. In fact he is batting just .176 (13-for-74) this month between the two teams after his red-hot start for the Shorebirds. His defense at short continues to be first-rate and he has not made an error in his short time at Frederick. The Keys' double play combo of Machado and Jonathan Schoop at second base continues to play to rave reviews. If you didn't notice, outfielder Glynn Davis (no not Glenn) was promoted to short-season Single-A Aberdeen from the Gulf Coast League where he was batting .435 in six games. Davis has blazing speed and is a player the Orioles are high on after signing him after the draft last summer. Jake Fox hit two homers for Triple-A Norfolk last night. Fox is batting .292 with six homers and 15 RBIs in 17 Tides games. He has four homers his last six games. Fox hit just .107, at 3-for-28 against left-handed pitching, while with the Orioles. But he is 8-for-23 with four homers versus lefties in Triple-A. A lot of fans have asked about Cameron Coffey in recent weeks. The 20-year-old lefty has now made two starts for the GCL O's and is 0-2 with an ERA of 5.63. He has allowed 13 hits over eight innings. O's minor league homer leaders: 13 - Josh Bell 10 - Rhyne Hughes, Tyler Townsend, Brandon Waring O's minor league RBI leaders: 53 - Kipp Schutz 43 - Rhyne Hughes 42 - Jonathan Schoop O's minor league strikeout leaders: 72 - Oliver Drake 68 - Michael Ballard, Steve Johnson By the way, fans have until tomorrow night at 11:59 p.m to vote for players for the All-Star game.
