Second inning gets Cubs going against Strasburg (Nats fall 6-4 in 10)

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Cubs finally got to Stephen Strasburg in the third inning with three consecutive base hits.

With two outs, Javier Báez singled. Anthony Rizzo doubled with Báez scoring all the way from first base. Ben Zobrist followed with a RBI single to score Rizzo.

Kris Bryant was hit by pitch but Strasburg struck out Albert Almora, Jr., to end the inning.

soto-swings-white-sidebar.jpgThe Nats managed base hits from Juan Soto in the second and Spencer Kieboom in the third, but have been unable to mount much else against Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks.

After three frames, the Cubs lead the Nationals 2-0.

Update: In the fourth, Bryce Harper reached on an error with one away. Anthony Rendon followed with a RBI double. With two outs, Mark Reynolds lauched a towering two-run shot over the left field wall.

After four innings, the Nats lead the Cubs 3-2.

Update II: The Cubs quickly tied the game in the fifth thanks to a pair of base hits from Daniel Murphy and Rizzo. Ben Zobrist's long sacrifice fly to center field scored Murphy from third base.

Mid-fifth, the Nats and the Cubs are tied at 3-3.

Update III: The Nats regained the lead on a Trea Turner run-scoring single in the fifth.

After five innings, the Nats lead the Cubs 4-3.

Update IV: Strasburg went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with one hit batter, three walks and six strikeouts. He threw 111 pitches, 71 for strikes.

Mid-sixth, the Nats lead 4-3.

Update V: Kris Bryant and Albert Almora, Jr., singled in the eighth. A fielder's choice to second base off the bat of Willson Contreras scored Bryant.

Mid-eighth, the game is tied at 4-4.

Update VI: Contreras with a RBI double and Taylor Davis delivered a run-scoring single off of Jimmy Cordero in the tenth. The Cubs lead 6-4 in the 10th.

Update VII: In the bottom of the tenth facing Jesse Chavez, Turner walked. Harper struck out looking. Rendon singled to right field but Soto struck out. Reynolds flew out to center field to end the game.

Final score: the Cubs 6, the Nats 4 in 10 innings.
