Strasburg has command issues early (Nats win 7-6 on Wieters hit)

Stephen Strasburg had a bit of trouble locating to the first couple of hitters he faced. Seth Smith doubled and Adam Jones walked to open the top of the first.

The Orioles put together a big second inning against Strasburg. After Jonathan Schoop was hit by a pitch, the Orioles reeled off three consecutive singles. Caleb Joseph had an RBI single to begin the scoring. A sacrifice fly by Seth Smith to deep center field made it 2-0. Jones followed with a run-scoring single to make it 3-0. Manny Machado grounded into a double play to end the frame.

After two innings, the Orioles lead the Nationals 3-0.

Update: Strasburg settled down and struck out the side in the fourth. He has four strikeouts in the last six batters he's faced.

Meanwhile, the Nationals strung together a walk and two singles against Wade Miley to plate their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Anthony Rendon walked with two outs, Matt Wieters singled and Michael A. Taylor singled to score Rendon, making it a 3-1 game.

Update II: The Orioles keep the pressure on. Mark Trumbo launched a two-run shot an estimated 461 feet to deep left center to give the Orioles a 5-1 lead in the fifth. The Nationals loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with no one out. But Miley surrendered only a fielder's choice RBI to Daniel Murphy.

After five innings, the Orioles lead 5-2 over the Nationals.

Update III: Strasburg finisheed six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. He fired 100 pitches, 68 for strikes.

After six innings, the Orioles lead the Nationals 5-2. Blake Treinen begins the seventh.

Update IV: Machado a solo shot in the seventh off of Treinen, his ninth homer of the season.

After seven and a half innings, the Orioles lead the Nationals 6-2.

Update V: Taylor crushes a two-run shot off of Orioles reliever Alec Asher in the eighth. But with a man on, Turner struck out to end the inning.

After eight innings, the Orioles lead 6-4 over the Nationals.

Update VI: Facing Orioles closer Brad Brach in the ninth, Jayson Werth led off with a solo shot to right-center field. With two men on, Rendon's single loaded the bases. Matt Wieters laced a first-pitch single down the right field line, scoring two runs for a 7-6 win. It's the Nationals' 12th come-from-behind win of the season.
