Taylor gets another day off, Barrett has Tommy John surgery

Center fielder Michael A. Taylor is getting one more day off to rest his right knee and is not in the starting lineup. Taylor originally hurt the knee last weekend and then banged it again early in the week in the series at St. Louis.

Manager Matt Williams said the move is precautionary.

Because having that injury, then being able to play, and then having it flare up again is a concern. I think he's fine, but just another day to make sure."

Taylor had a MRI last night. The results were negative, no significant damage.

"All the results were good," Williams said. "I think the fact that he banged it again in St. Louis on the throw, we don't want it to swell any further. In that regard we'll give him another day, make sure we get it out of there."

The young player wants to play and said pregame that the knee is making progress.

"I think it's healing, and as long I don't have a setback or anything like that, I imagine be over it in a couple days," Taylor said. "I'm ready to play right now."

Right-hander Aaron Barrett had successful Tommy John surgery yesterday and is now prepping for the 12-month rehab process. Barrett is on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain.

"He's doing alright and everything was successful," Williams said. "He's on the road to recovery now. It's disappointing for him certainly, but he's a warrior and he'll work hard to get back.

"The rehab that they have is extensive and really on point these days. A lot of guys come back successful. But each guy's different, too. Everybody reacts differently."

Williams was asked is if it is there intention to have Barrett back by September of next season.

"You don't know. At this point, you just don't know," Williams said. "What we can do is make sure that he gets the proper rehab, which he will get, and get strong again. Go through that throwing program that he must go through and then make a determination. But at this point there is no thought on when or where or how."
