Miguel Gonzalez on going on the DL; Mike Wright on his start Saturday

TORONTO -- Orioles right-hander Miguel Gonzalez officially went on the disabled list today, retroactive to Monday, with right shoulder tendinitis.

He still intends to pitch again this year and hopes to do some throwing sometime next week.

"That's the goal," he said today in the visiting clubhouse at Rogers Centre. "As soon as we start throwing, we'll see if I can get on the mound. Richie (Bancells, head athletic trainer) is just telling me to do things day by day. We don't want to rush it. We don't want a setback again. It really depends how I feel daily."

Gonzalez got a cortisone injection in his shoulder Monday. He is 9-11 with an ERA of 4.85 on the season. In six August starts, Gonzalez is 0-4 with a 6.82 ERA.

"I feel much better, especially my shoulder," he said. "My elbow is still bothering me a little bit. The swelling hasn't really gone down. Going on the DL gives me time to refocus again and work hard and get better and get healthy. That way when I come back I'll be 100 percent."

Meanwhile, pitcher Mike Wright was reinstated from the 15-day DL today and he will make the start tomorrow afternoon against first-place Toronto.

Wright went on the DL on Aug. 1 with a left calf strain but feels 100 percent now. He made two rehab starts for Triple-A Norfolk. In 10 innings he gave up just four hits and one run.

"I think that was about as positive as they could have went," Wright said of those two starts. "I felt healthy, my arm feels good. I was happy to go six innings my last start. Hopefully I can do the same thing up here. I don't feel it anywhere close as much as I used to and it doesn't effect anything, my running or jumping."

Wright will be starting on three-day's rest tomorrow after pitching six scoreless innings on two hits and 65 pitches Tuesday. He said he got tipped off to the fact he might start on short rest via social media.

"I look on Twitter alot. Usually Twitter knows best, so I'm up to date," he said.

Now Wright wants to pitch much better than his start on June 19 when he gave up four runs in 1 1/3 innings on three hits and four walks in Toronto.

"Last time, they could have had anybody in the lineup," Wright said. "I walked everybody. It wasn't as much their bats as it was me not pitching very well. Just going to go out there and try to attack the zone. Even though they are a hot-hitting team, they still get out seven out of 10 times and you have to keep that in mind."

Shortstop J.J. Hardy said he still plans to be activated off the DL when he can on Tuesday. He said earlier he intended to test his strained left groin by running during pregame workouts. He also planned to track some pitches during bullpen sessions.

Catcher Matt Wieters said he feels good after catching back-to-back days Tuesday and Wendesday for just the second time this year. He is in tonight's starting lineup and said he could carry a heavier load the rest of this season.
