Townsend moves to Frederick

After a recent hitting tear, Delmarva Shorebirds first baseman Tyler Townsend has moved to Frederick. He will join the Keys for their game tonight vs. Myrtle Beach. In 30 games for the Shorebirds, Townsend, last year's third-round draft pick, hit .342 (40-117) with three home runs and 26 RBIs. Townsend's bat, like the weather, heated up this month. In 21 games, he batted .354 with three home runs and 21 RBIs. He also totaled 10 doubles. As of July 24, he leads the Orioles minor league system during July in batting average (.354). He is also tied with Brandon Waring of Bowie for the organization lead with 10 doubles in July. Additionally, he is second in the system during the month in RBIs (21). Michael Aubrey (Norfolk) leads the system in RBIs during July (25). Over his last six games, Townsend is 13 for 28 with four doubles, a triple, two homers and 13 RBI. Meanwhile, as expected, pitchers Brandon Erbe and Kam Mickolio have joined the Aberdeen IronBirds and are expected to pitch in their game at Ripken Stadium tonight.
