Turner gets Nats on board (Nats fall 5-3)

The Rockies got to Lucas Giolito to begin the game with a single and a walk. Charlie Blackmon singled and then went to second on a free pass to DJ LeMahieu.

Nolan Arenado smacked a RBI single to left field and the Rockies lead 1-0.

Trea Turner quickly got the Nationals even in the bottom of the first on a solo shot to left field, his fifth homer of the season. The 27 runs scored by Turner this month are a new franchise record for a rookie.

Update: The Rockies tallied three runs in the third thanks to a pair of two-out home runs off Giolito. Carlos Gonzalez walked and then Arenado crushed a two-run shot. David Dahl followed with a solo homer. The Rockies retake the lead at 4-1 after two and a half innings. Giolito has allowed five hits and four runs through three innings, with two walks and two strikeouts. He has thrown 65 pitches, 41 for strikes.

Update II: Giolito finished five innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He allowed two homers, firing 100 pitches, 64 for strikes. Oliver Perez allowed two hits to begin the sixth, but got two groundouts to escape the jam.

Update III: The Nationals got closer thanks to a solo homer from Wilson Ramos in the seventh. It was Ramos' 20th homer of the season, and the Rockies lead 4-2 heading to the top of the eighth.

Update IV: Daniel Descalso doubled with one out in the eighth against Koda Glover. He scored on a bizarre play. Glover's wild pitch hit home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski, who went down in apparent extreme pain. This partially distracted Ramos and Glover, who checked on Muchlinski as Arenado ran through third base and scored in front of the umpire injury.

First base umpire Marty Foster and third base umpire Mike Winters did not stop play and did not send Arenado back to third base. The run counted and the Rockies lead 5-2 after eight innings.

Update V: Bryce Harper slammed his 23rd homer, a solo shot, in the bottom of the ninth to cut the Rockies' lead to 5-3. But Adam Ottavino came on to record three straight outs.

The Rockies beat the Nationals 5-3 to take the season series, four games to two. They have won 18 of their 29 meetings over the Nationals at Nats Park.
