Updates on Schoop and Machado

It looks like Jonathan Schoop, the 19-year-old infielder for the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds, should return to the lineup soon after missing games Tuesday and Wednesday. Schoop, from Willemstad, Curacao, recently fouled a ball off his foot, forcing him out of the Shorebirds' lineup. Schoop is off to a great start for Delmarva, batting .305 with 12 doubles, three triples, seven homers and 30 RBIs. He has a .362 OBP, a .498 slugging percentage and an .859 OPS. Schoop, who last played on Monday, is batting .362 against left-handed pitching. He was Manny Machado's partner on the left side of that Delmarva infield, playing at third base until Machado got hurt. Then he moved back to his more natural position of shortstop. Machado, by the way, went 0-for-2 with two walks today in Sarasota at an extended spring training game. The report I got was late in the game and it's possible he added another plate appearance before the game ended. The O's are hopeful that Machado may need to play in just a few games before he can return to the Delmarva club. He has been out since May 5 with a left knee injury.
