Third baseman Anthony Rendon smacked a double in the fourth inning on Saturday afternoon to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, which matches a career high from June of 2018. He has extra-base hits in 10 straight games, the longest of his career, the longest in the major leagues this season and longest in Nationals history.
The extra-base streak is the longest in baseball since Cleveland's Francisco Lindor from Sept. 7-16, 2017 and Houston's Alex Bregman from July 30-Aug. 9, 2017. The...
Despite Friday's series opening loss to the Pirates, Anthony Rendon continues to scorch the ball. He went 2-for-5 with two homers, and even his outs were loud. Rendon is batting .426 and already has six homers and 16 RBIs in 12 games.
His OPS is now at a whopping 1.439.
His first homer Friday gave the Nationals a 2-1 lead. His second homer was just as dramatic, bringing the Nats back from a 3-2 deficit to tie the game at 3-3.
"I'm just trying to control the things that I can control,...
One would not blame Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin if he became upset after pitching another gem and seeing the bullpen give it away late.
But Corbin remained calm even without the decision, tossing seven solid innings on a rainy Friday night at Nats Park. He allowed only a Josh Bell solo homer in the second inning and then three other hits, striking out 11 and walking one. Corbin fired 106 pitches, 65 for strikes, but the Nats fell to the Pirates, 6-3 in 10 innings.
"Felt good," Corbin...
Pittsburgh scored first against Nationals southpaw Patrick Corbin.
In the second, Josh Bell led off with a solo homer over the left-center field wall on 0-1 count. Corbin then struck out two and forced a groundout to end the inning.
The Nats quickly answered in the bottom of the second. Pirates starter Trevor Williams walked Ryan Zimmerman and Wilmer Difo. Corbin helped his own cause with an RBI single to left field to tie the game 1-1.
Corbin allowed a single to Erick González in the third...
The first game of the Nationals homestand tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates is also Juan Soto Bobblehead giveaway night. The Washington Post wrote a story that Soto got a prototype of the figurine for his approval before they made the bobbleheads and Soto said he wanted them to remake the bobblehead with him smiling instead of a serious non-expression.
It would not be much of a surprise for a young player like Soto to just accept whatever bobblehead prototype he was given with his likeness...
A rare moment to remember for Double-A Harrisburg as the Senators shut out Bowie 2-0 with a no-hitter.
Erick Fedde, Jordan Mills and Aaron Barrett combined for the gem, the fifth such no-hitter since 1987 for Harrisburg. Fedde went six innings, striking out six and walking one. He threw 79 pitches, 50 for strikes, and the lone walk came on a full-count pitch.
Fedde and Barrett have pitched for the Nats, and Mills was a star for the club's Arizona Fall League team in November.
Mills went two...
Jake Noll hit his first home run in Triple-A yesterday in Salt Lake City. It was an opposite-field hit over the right field fence that helped guide Fresno to a 2-0 win.
Alec Keller added the second run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the fifth. Keller is hitting .381 (8-for-21) in the season's first six games. Right-handed starter Kyle McGowin went 5 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only four hits and no walks, striking out six. The Grizzlies led 8-1 in the third inning of game two of the...
Juan Soto launched an epic blast into the upper deck last night at Citizens Bank Park, building on his resume as one of the most exciting young power hitters in the game today.
The three-run shot turned into the game-winner for the Nationals at Philadelphia, coming on a 1-0 pitch. The ball went over the right field foul pole. The game was tied 6-6 when Soto hit the home run. The Nats came back from a 6-1 deficit by scoring nine unanswered for the signature win 10-6 in 10 frames. Suddenly the...
Here are some highlights from Sunday's games played by Nationals affiliates:

With the news that Joe Ross will arrive today from Fresno to help the Nationals pitching staff, here's a look back at my talk post game with him after a spring start against the N.Y. Mets in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He had two spring starts against the Mets.
He was scheduled to start Monday for the Triple-A Grizzlies but will now help the big club. Ross went 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA in seven games in spring training.
Fresno beat Reno 8-4 Saturday, thanks to a grand slam by center fielder Matt Reynolds,...
Last night, Reno defeated Fresno 7-5 ,but shortstop Carter Kieboom and third baseman Jake Noll each contributed on their first Triple-A base hits. Kieboom connected on a double and Noll an RBI single.
Juan Soto said he has known Noll for quite some time because they came up to the big leagues together. Noll was optioned to Fresno when the Nationals reinstated Howie Kendrick from the injured list Thursday morning.
"I feel very happy for him because we played together in the minor leagues,"...
Juan Soto did not get extra-base hits or up his RBI total Thursday in the Nationals' 4-0 win at Citi Field against Mets flame thrower Noah Syndergaard. But he did something that was still very important to the offense. Soto walked once and scored two runs, going 1-for-3.
Soto's walk led off the second inning, one of the best examples this season of the Nats manufacturing a run to take an early lead.
Ryan Zimmerman walked to push Soto to second base. A wild pitched from Syndergaard moved Soto...
Nationals manager Davey Martinez said Wednesday that he was not thrilled with the way his team is playing baseball right now. The club has started 2-3, the bullpen has struggled to record outs, the defense has made mistakes and the baserunning has caused opportunities to be taken off the board. The skipper deemed the 9-8 victory Wednesday over the Phillies as a "bittersweet win."
Right fielder Adam Eaton, who had a single, a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's come-from-behind win,...
Nationals manager Davey Martinez was happy his club mounted a late comeback to beat the Phillies 9-8 Wednesday, but is not pleased with how the team is playing baseball through its first five games.
"Oh, we needed it," Martinez said. "And it's kind of a bittersweet win. I'm not thrilled about how we're playing, but I'm happy that the boys kept pushing. It's a testament to them. But we gotta start playing better. We worked all spring on doing the little things, and we gotta make it...
The Phillies got going in the first against Nats starter AnÃbal Sánchez. With one out, Jean Segura singled, Bryce Harper was intentionally walked and Rhys Hoskins singled Segura home to make it 1-0 Phillies. J.T. Realmuto laid down a bunt that Sanchez deftly fielded and threw him out at first, but Harper scored to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the first against Aaron Nola, Anthony Rendon hit his second homer of the series. After a Juan Soto double, Ryan Zimmerman golfed a two-run shot...
General manager Mike Rizzo went over the injury report prior to Wednesday's series finale against the Phillies but also touched on the problems the bullpen is having keeping opponents off the board late in games. In the Mets series, the Nationals bullpen allowed eight runs on 11 hits in the eighth inning alone.
It has been only four games, but individual numbers have been somewhat brutal. Matt Grace's ERA is 20.25 in three games. Jeremy Hellickson allowed three hits last night, including...
Off-season free agent acquisition AnÃbal Sánchez gets the call for his season debut in game two of the series against the Phillies this afternoon as the Nationals look to split the short series.
The right-hander went 5 1/3 innings against the Yankees in the March 25 exhibition, allowing two runs on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. He threw 86 pitches, 47 for strikes in the 5-3 win.
Sánchez is 5-9 with a 4.50 ERA in 20 career starts against the Phillies. He has 94...
Nationals shortstop Trea Turner broke his right index finger when he was hit by pitch from Phillies starter Zach Eflin in the first inning of Tuesday's 8-2 loss. Turner was attended on the field by Nats head athletic trainer Dale Gilbert and left the game.
After the game, manager Davey Martinez and Turner confirmed the injury is a non-displaced fractured finger on his throwing hand. Martinez said there was no timetable for Turner's return.
"Yeah, it's broken, didn't feel real good,"...
The Phillies came out of the gate quickly to begin the top of the first against the Nationals with back-to-back singles off of Max Scherzer.
Then, in a matchup that felt like a playoff duel, Scherzer struck out former Nats right fielder Bryce Harper on a 2-2 changeup. The crowd at Nats Park went crazy. Scherzer got out of the inning unscathed.
However, with one out in the bottom of the first against Phillies starter Zach Eflin, Trea Turner was hit on his right index finger while attempting to...
The Nationals got some good news on the injury front with the return of utility man Howie Kendrick to the clubhouse from extended spring training in West Palm Beach. Kendrick has been on the injured list with a left hamstring strain since March 25.
"We wanted to bring him back, get some eyes on him, see where he's at," said manager Davey Martinez. "He's going to work out with us a couple of days. He's actually doing well. We just want to get him here and watch him work out with us and see...
