The Orioles have announced their plans to honor former pitcher, coach, executive and MASN broadcaster Mike Flanagan, who died Wednesday at age 59. Beginning with tonight's game against the Yankees, Orioles uniformed personnel will wear a black circular patch with "FLANNY" written in white on their right jersey sleeves for the remainder of the 2011 season. Orioles outfielder Felix Pie cleared waivers today and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. And while Pie has the right to refuse the assignment, I'm told that he plans to accept it and report to the Tides. Pie would have to forfeit the remainder of the $985,000 salary he's receiving this year, which doesn't make much sense. The Orioles family is devastated tonight by the news of the death of Mike Flanagan. I have known Mike many years and am so blessed that he considered me a friend. He listened to radio shows that I hosted on WBAL and this year on 105.7 FM in Baltimore. He often talked about that with me and said he would listen on his drive home.
