Game 65 lineups: Nats at Yankees

NEW YORK - The Nationals have been shut out in back-to-back games for the 12th time in club history. They've never been shut out in back-to-back-to-back games, so there's the minimum bar for success in tonight's series finale at Yankee Stadium.

Soto-smile-red-sidebar.jpgAfter flailing away at C.C. Sabathia and three Yankees relievers Tuesday night, the Nats will get a shot tonight at right-hander Sonny Gray, who enters with a 4.81 ERA but has allowed only one run over his last 14 innings. Daniel Murphy, who was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his season debut, returns as designated hitter. Juan Soto, who was out of the lineup Tuesday for the first time since the day he was called up, also returns. And Bryce Harper is playing as well, so it appears his elbow and toe are fine after getting hit by a couple of pitches.

It'll be Erick Fedde on the mound making his second major league start of the season, fifth overall. The rookie right-hander impressed in his previous 2018 outing, but that came against the Padres. This is a whole new challenge tonight. To clear a spot for Fedde on the active roster, reliever Trevor Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.
