Johnny Holliday nominated for National Radio Hall of Fame

Johnny Holliday, co-host of the "Nats Xtra" pregame and postgame shows on MASN, has been nominated for the 2018 class of the National Radio Hall of Fame. Holliday is nominated in the category for local/regional broadcasters with 20 or more years in the industry.

Long before he joined MASN, Holliday was a successful rock and roll disc jockey, working with legendary announcer Murray the K on WINS in New York, and spinning tunes on San Francisco's KYA, the top 40 giant where he drew acclaim as the No. 1 disc jockey in the United States. Holliday moved to Washington, D.C., in 1969, working as a morning drive host on WWDC until 1978 and in sports for WMAL from 1979-1991. He also worked in Cleveland, giving him the claim of working in four of radio's most important and influential markets.

Johnny-Holliday.jpgFor more then 40 years, Holliday has been the voice of the Maryland Terrapins, broadcasting football and men's basketball for the University of Maryland. He has also called play-by-play for The University of California, Stanford, Naval Academy, Washington Bullets, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco Warriors. He has hosted shows for the San Francisco Giants and Washington Redskins. He fills in on Nationals baseball broadcasts on MASN.

He was a 2014 inductee into the Washington DC Sports Hall of Fame and The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame, and was the 2014 Maryland Sportscaster of the year. Holliday has been recognized by the College Football Hall of Fame with the Lindsay Nelson Outstanding Sportscaster Award, by the Catholic Youth Organization as its National Person of the Year, and by the Diabetes Association as its Father of the Year. He is also a member of the Radio Television Broadcasters Hall of Fame and The Washington DC Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame.

Inductees will be announced June 25. The induction ceremony will be held Thursday, Nov. 15 at New York City landmark Guastavino's, located in midtown Manhattan.
