Game 106 lineups: Nats vs. Mets

With all the attention placed on the trade deadline, the Nationals want to make sure they do not divert from their most important mission this week: accumulate wins and find a way to earn series victories against the Mets and the Reds at home.

The two-game series against New York features a night game tonight and a 12:05 p.m. game Wednesday. The Nats also need to end a two-game losing streak.

Right-hander Tanner Roark (4-12, 4.55 ERA), is looking to build off his best start of the season, eight shutout innings in a win over the Brewers last week. Roark allowed only three hits and one walk, and struck out a season-high 11 batters. He threw 106 pitches, 68 for strikes.

Left-hander Steven Matz (5-8, 3.79) counters for the Mets. On July 12 against the Nats, Matz went 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 100 pitches, 64 for strikes.

The Nats welcome back third baseman Anthony Rendon, who missed the Marlins series as he and his wife, Amanda, welcomed a new baby girl. Rendon hit two homers against the Mets in the first two at-bats last time he faced Matz, a two-run shot in the first and a solo homer in the third.
