Klein headed for Aberdeen

O's third-round pick Dan Klein, the UCLA pitcher, is on his way to Baltimore for a physical and then is expected to join the Aberdeen IronBirds. Klein has been been throwing and keeping in good shape so it could be only the matter of a few days before he pitches in a game. The O's agreed to terms with Klein on a signing bonus last night after scouting director Joe Jordan met with Klein and his parents in California on Saturday. Meawhile, fifth-round pick, infielder Conner Narron and ninth-round pick Parker Bridwell have both joined the Gulf Coast League O's. Narron could make his pro debut as soon as tomorrow and is expected to play shortstop. The O's still feel confident that they will sign top pick Manny Machado, although they have not made any recent progress on those talks. That one should still go down to the wire on Monday. There are three other unsigned O's picks among the top 15 round selections. The O's do not appear close right now with pitcher Dixon Anderson, taken in round six or pitcher Matthew Bywater taken in round seven. They do appear closer on a deal with 11th-round pick, pitcher Alexander Gonzalez, whose summer team is playing right now in the Connie Mack World Series. A note from the minors: Aberdeen IronBirds starting pitcher Justin Moore has been added to the American League roster for the All-Star Game. Moore is one of five IronBirds playing in the game, the most Aberdeen has sent to that contest. Moore was selected by the Orioles in the 26th round of the 2007 draft out of Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg, VA. The right-hander is 3-1, 3.31 in seven starts. The highlight of Moore's season came on July 2nd against Hudson Valley when Moore pitched six no-hit innings, before reaching his pitch count and exiting the game. Moore will join teammates Trent Mummey, Kipp Schutz, Adam Gaylord and Tim Adleman in Staten Island, NY for the All-Star Gamw . The exhibition will take place on Tuesday August 17th at Richmond County Ballpark in Staten Island, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
