Notes on Friday's starter, Sedlock's debut and more

LOS ANGELES - Orioles manager Buck Showalter still has not announced which pitcher will start Friday's series opener at home against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Showalter was asked if it will be an internal candidate.

"All options are open. See how we get through today. Put our best foot forward today and put our best foot forward on Friday," he said.

Showalter was asked if Friday's start could be a bullpen game, where he uses several pitchers to cover the nine innings.

"If it was Sunday, it'd be different. But being Friday and having (to play) Saturday and Sunday, looking at Anaheim's roster today. Got some idea about who it won't be."

Dylan Bundy, who has not pitched since last Thursday at Seattle, is an option to start on Friday. Showalter was asked if it is more of a possibility that Bundy could make a start this year at some point now as opposed to before.

"Yeah, because he is healthy and has pitched well. That is still an option for us. He has done everything to make that more a potential reality. The question is 'when' not 'if'."

The Orioles list Yovani Gallardo as Saturday's starter and Chris Tillman for Sunday against the Angels, who are going with three right-handers in Matt Shoemaker, Nick Tropeano and Tim Lincecum.

Showalter said he has not yet set up his rotation for out of the All-Star break, but that the pitchers will know their schedules by the time they leave for the break on Sunday.

Mychal Givens is still expected to leave the team on paternity leave soon, but the club doesn't know exactly when that will be.

Right-handed pitcher Cody Sedlock, the Orioles' first-round pick out of the University of Illinois, joined the roster of the short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds yesterday. He will make his pro debut on Saturday when Aberdeen plays at Williamsport.
