Orioles lineup missing Mountcastle again

Ryan Mountcastle is out of the Orioles lineup again tonight in Arizona. He was scratched last night due to an illness.

Gunnar Henderson, who went 2-for-4 last night with two runs scored, stays at shortstop. Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter.

Ryan O’Hearn is the first baseman and Ramón Urías is playing third base. Adam Frazier is the second baseman.

Henderson is batting .330 or better when he’s ahead or even in the count, but .172 when behind.

Anthony Santander is slugging .809 against fastballs since the start of August after slugging .276 against them in July.

Kyle Bradish, who grew up in Arizona, maintained his 3.03 ERA after allowing two runs to the Rockies over six innings. He posted a 2.12 ERA and 0.978 WHIP in five August starts.

Bradish, who has never faced the Diamondbacks, is holding left-handed batters to a .184 average in the second half.

The Orioles have lost back-to-back games but remain 1 ½ ahead of the Rays.

Arizona right-hander Slade Cecconi was the Orioles’ 38th-round pick in the 2018 draft. He attended the University of Miami and was chosen 33rd overall by the Diamondbacks in 2020.

Cecconi made his major league debut on Aug. 2. He’s posted a 2.57 ERA and 0.905 WHIP in five appearances (three starts) over 21 innings.

The Orioles brought back reliever Jorge López today, claiming him on waivers from the Marlins. López hasn’t reported to the team.

Logan Gillaspie was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

López was an All-Star closer for the Orioles in 2022 before they traded him to the Twins at the deadline for pitchers Yennier Cano, Cade Povich, Juan Nunez and Juan Rojas. The Marlins acquired him on July 26 for pitcher Dylan Floro.

Here's more on López, who isn't eligible for the postseason.
