Willingham's walk off

Willingham's walk off
Does it seem like the Orioles don't have much luck sometimes? Alfredo Simon retired all four batters he faced in Washington today. He got a ground out to start the last of the tenth, but while running to cover first base on that grounder, seemed to strain a hamstring and had to leave the game. Cla Meredith came on and faced Josh Willingham. The count reached 2-1 and then Meredith left a pitch up in the zone and Willingham hit it out to left center for a game-winning homer as the Nats...

Corey Patterson's mental mistake

Corey Patterson's mental mistake
Corey Patterson likely cost the O's a run in the sixth inning at Washington. A run that would have cut the Nats lead in the game to 3-2. Patterson walked and stolen second. When Nick Markakis hit a fly ball to deep center, Patterson strayed off the bag at second and did not tag up. He would have made third easily. The next hitter, Miguel Tejada, hit a routine grounder to short. Washington's infield would not have been playing in with a two-run lead and that would have likely plated...

That's Scott as in hot (bat)

That's Scott as in hot (bat)
So what is the deal with Luke Scott? How can one player be looking so bad one day and a few days later be one of the hottest hitters in the game? The only thing that is consistent with his swing is its inconsistency. Scott was hitting just .177 after his first 24 games and had just one multi-hit game in that time. But over his last 11 games he is hitting .488 with seven multi-hit games. He had 14 hits in his first 24 games and has now 20 hits in his last 11 games. He averaged one RBI...

Matusz, who had given up just two homers all year over 47 1/3, tonight gave up two more. Nelson Cruz hit a three-run shot in the first and Vladimir Guerrero added a two-run shot in the second as...
