Tillman feeling strong as season winds down

The Orioles have discussed possibly limiting the innings of their rookie pitchers in September or maybe even shutting them down at some point during the month. O's 21-year-old right hander Chris Tillman could understand if that happens, but he says right now, it's not really necessary for him. Utility infielder Robert Andino cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles tried to work out a deal for Andino but couldn't find a trade partner. Concerns about his defense, especially at second base, led the Orioles to acquire Julio Lugo from the St. Louis Cardinals late in spring training. Andino has been told that he'll play shortstop at Norfolk, though the Orioles also have Blake Davis and Scott Moore. It's getting a little crowded down there.

In suffering the blown save in the last of the 9th in Tampa's 4-3 win over the Orioles Tuesday, four of the five batters he faced reached vs. Mike Gonzalez. The bottom of the ninth set up nicely for new O's closer Mike Gonzalez. Tampa had the bottom of the lineup coming up.
