Game 10 lineups: Nationals at Phillies

PHILADELPHIA -- The Nationals have now won six in a row and are off to their best start in franchise history at 8-1 following Friday's 9-1 series-opening win over the Phillies.

The previous best starts were 7-2 by the 1974 Montreal Expos and the 1951 Washington Senators.

Tonight's second game of the weekend series features right-hander Max Scherzer (1-0, 4.15 ERA) facing right-hander Aaron Nola (0-1, 3.21 ERA).

It is Scherzer's third start of the season and seventh all-time against the Phillies. He is 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA versus Philadelphia, with 42 strikeouts, five walks and one homer allowed in 40 innings.

This is Nola's third career start against the Nationals. In 10 innings, Nola, 22, is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA with 13 strikeouts and one walk.

Through the first nine games of the season, Nationals starters have the best ERA in the major leagues at 2.01. The next closest is the White Sox at 2.37. The rotation has allowed only two earned runs in the last 28 1/3 innings. During this span, the starters have averaged seven innings per game and posted an 0.64 ERA.

The Nationals' five runs in the first inning Friday night were the most they had scored in a single inning this season. With 10 men coming to the plate in the inning, it was also the first time they batted around in the season's first nine games.
