SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy said he's in today's lineup for the 1:05 p.m. game against the Phillies at Ed Smith Stadium.
Hardy will be making his Grapefruit League debut. He took live batting practice again yesterday and his back is fine.
"It's been a little bit longer road than I thought it would be, but I'm feeling good and now I just need to get into some baseball form," Hardy said.
Hardy said he will play a "normal" schedule to get ready for opening day. Whatever...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Competition is a good thing until it builds because your ace is injured.
The Orioles aren't saying that Chris Tillman definitely won't be one of the five starters coming out of camp, but that's the likely result after his bullpen session yesterday was bagged due to more shoulder soreness. He didn't make it to the mound. Pain on flat ground seems to have flat-lined his hopes of pitching on April 15.
In the most perfect of baseball worlds, someone already in camp would step...
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter didn't have an update on pitcher Chris Tillman following today's game against the Twins. He expects to have a better feel for the situation in the morning.
Tillman, as you know, didn't throw his bullpen session today because of soreness in his right shoulder.
"The doctor, they didn't really spend a lot of time talking to Chris other than on the field. They kind of convened about what the next move might be if he continues down this path....

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Whatever optimism that the Orioles held for Chris Tillman making his debut on April 15 pretty much vanished this morning at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
Tillman's third bullpen session never materialized due to the right shoulder discomfort that shut him down earlier in camp. The Orioles hoped that an antibiotic that caused soreness in his joints was responsible for Wednesday's subpar session, and held him back an extra day before this morning's attempt.
"Started to play...
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Chris Tillman never made it to the mound this morning for his bullpen session and it's becoming more unlikely that he breaks camp as one of the Orioles' five starting pitchers.
Tillman had to be shut down after about 10 long tosses due to right shoulder discomfort, according to manager Buck Showalter. The club will check on him Monday and decide the next step.
The Orioles were prepared to put Tillman on the 10-day disabled list, backdated to March 30, but hoped that he...
FORT MYERS, Fla. - While players boarded the two buses this morning for the trip to Hammond Stadium, home of the Twins, closer Zach Britton was preparing to throw batting practice to a group that included shortstop J.J. Hardy.
Britton was slated to throw about 20 pitches as he nears his first Grapefruit League appearance. Hardy has been taking batting practice and could play Monday or Tuesday, since the Orioles are home both days.
Britton recruited Caleb Joseph to catch him and he chose to wear...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Chris Dickerson is leading off for the Orioles today and top prospect Chance Sisco is behind the plate for a 1:05 p.m. game against the Twins in Fort Myers.
Hyun Soo Kim is on another trip. Rule 5 pick Anthony Santander is the designated hitter, still waiting for his first start in the outfield.

SARASOTA, Fla. - A second trip to Fort Myers in three days. If only I had brought gray pants for the occasion.
Michael Bourn will stay back in camp as usual while his broken finger heals. He isn't required to wear pants, but he's likely to break out a pair of shorts.
Hand specialist Dr. Brian Schofield examined Bourn on Friday. I'm sure he wore pants.
"Everything is healing fine," Bourn said. "Liked the way it looked and still on a good time schedule, so we'll see what happens once I go...
SARASOTA, Fla. - David Washington hit his second exhibition home run today, a wind-blown two-run shot to center field that gave the Orioles a 7-6 walk-off victory over the Pirates at Ed Smith Stadium.
Craig Gentry singled with one out in the ninth before Washington came to the plate.
"He's put some good swings on balls the last week," said manager Buck Showalter. "He's hit some balls hard. He's a really good young man to be around, too. He works hard. He's been a pleasure to have in...

SARASOTA, Fla. - Could Chris Tillman's bullpen session on Wednesday have been affected by an antibiotic? And have stranger things happened?
Yes to the latter, but the Orioles are withholding judgment on the former.
The Orioles switched Tillman's medication and pushed back his session until Sunday morning.
"He was taking an antibiotic and one of the side effects is some soreness in the joints," said manager Buck Showalter. "They got him off that and changed the antibiotic. They decided to...
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles have reached agreement on a minor league deal with Pedro Ãlvarez, one of the free agent sluggers who stayed on the market much longer than anticipated, according to an industry source.
The deal is pending a medical review.
The club was interested in a reunion only on a minor league contract, which Ãlvarez finally agreed to two weeks into March.
The contract language also had to be worked out this morning, the final step besides the medical review.
Ãlvarez,...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Chris Tillman's bullpen session has been pushed back to Sunday after the club discovered that an antibiotic he was taking caused soreness in his joints.
The Orioles switched his medication and gave him an extra day to recover. They're also wondering if it impacted Wednesday's bullpen session.
The original March 17 target date for Tillman to make his first start may be too ambitious, but it hasn't been eliminated.
Reliever Logan Ondrusek will visit Dr. James Andrews on March...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Left-hander Richard Bleier went with his head instead of his heart.
Bleier would have been honored to pitch again for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic, as he did in the qualifying round in 2013, and he had a chance this week to fly out to Japan for the second round after being placed in the designated pitcher pool.
Waiting, not wading.
Bleier stood at his locker this morning, further proof that he declined the invitation.
"I just decided that I wasn't going to go...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles closer Zach Britton said he's going to throw live batting practice on Sunday and pitch in his first game Tuesday against the Rays at Ed Smith Stadium.
Britton kept the Orioles encouraged by yesterday's bullpen session
"I feel good after yesterday, so I'm itching to get in a game," Britton said. "Definitely feel like I've been ready the last few days to get in a game.
"It seems like it's been a long spring training already and I haven't gotten in any games....
SARASOTA, Fla. - Mike Wright is back on the mound today for the Orioles, making his third start and attempting to clear four innings live on MASN. As always, it's dictated by pitch count.
Wright has faced the Phillies twice and allowed two earned runs (three total) over five innings. He still hasn't walked a batter.
The Orioles are playing the Pirates for the fourth time this spring. They've gone 1-2 if anyone cares.
I've got one leftover for breakfast today and it comes from Jason...
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Orioles and Red Sox completed their game tonight in 2 hours and 29 minutes. Everyone wins.
The Orioles actually lost 4-0, but Rule 5 pick Aneury Tavárez went 3-for-3 with a stolen base, Ubaldo Jiménez was much better after the first inning, Chris Lee didn't allow a run in three innings and Brad Brach and Jesus Liranzo retired the side in order in their respective innings.
Lots to like, but also a loss to take back to Sarasota.
Jiménez allowed three runs and...

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter mentioned this week that none of his starters have come out of games early because they reached their pitch limits, but Ubaldo Jiménez struggled so badly tonight that minor leaguer Luis Gonzalez began to warm up in the first inning.
The Red Sox sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs on three hits. Jiménez also walked two batters before getting a called third strike on Bryce Brentz on his 31st pitch of the inning.
