SARASOTA, Fla. - Manny Machado walked onto the Ed Smith Stadium field this morning in his Dominican Republic uniform, performed a series of stretching exercises, played catch with José Bautista - hey, Jonathan Schoop isn't here - embraced his father and stepped into the batting cage.
Sort of business as usual except for the jersey and cap and his teammates.
Machado is back at third base after playing shortstop for the Orioles in seven exhibition games. No word on where he'll start...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles reliever Logan Ondrusek is day-to-day with elbow soreness, according to manager Buck Showalter.
Ondrusek has been scratched from Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays in Sarasota. He served up a two-run homer yesterday in the ninth inning in Lakeland.
Ondrusek was shut down earlier in camp after rolling his right ankle in a fielding drill.
Shortstop J.J. Hardy has amped up his workouts on the back fields. He legged out a "triple" this morning in one drill.

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles are listing Brad Brach, Jed Bradley, Joe Gunkel, Zach Stewart and Logan Verrett today among their relievers behind starter Kevin Gausman.
The Dominican Republic is starting right-hander Samuel Deduno, 33, who's pitched for the Rockies, Padres, Twins and Astros from 2010-15. He appeared in 10 games last summer with the Orioles' Gulf Coast League team following hip surgery and allowed three earned runs in 18 innings before they released him in August.

SARASOTA, Fla. - Third baseman Manny Machado and catcher Welington Castillo stopped by the Orioles clubhouse this morning as members of the opposing team.
Their lockers remain in place with the uniforms and other belongings. They're just in the other lineup today as the Orioles play the Dominican Republic.
Castillo arrived much earlier than his new teammates and said he had no idea who was pitching for the Dominican. He's going to face Kevin Gausman.
A few of the clubhouse televisions were...

SARASOTA, Fla. - How are we supposed to miss Manny Machado and Welington Castillo if they don't go away?
But seriously, both Orioles are back at Ed Smith Stadium today with the Dominican Republic team that's competing in the World Baseball Classic. It should be an enjoyable exhibition, with Kevin Gausman facing teammates that are part of a star-studded lineup.
This is one visiting team that's not bringing a bus filled with minor leaguers.
The Orioles have won their last three games,...
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Orioles lost their shutout today in the bottom of the ninth inning, with Dominic Ficociello hitting a two-run homer off Logan Ondrusek. Otherwise, the afternoon was a rousing success.
Dylan Bundy held the Tigers scoreless for the first three innings and the Orioles erupted for six runs in the top of the third in a 7-2 victory.
"Good, good," said manager Buck Showalter. "I was a little concerned after that long inning. If he had come out and ... we had someone ready to go...

LAKELAND, Fla. - Dylan Bundy is the latest Orioles pitcher to go three innings, shutting out the Tigers this afternoon at Publix Field. His fastball was topping out at 94 mph, but the secondary stuff defined his start.
Bundy retired the side in order in the first on only seven pitches, six for strikes. He threw 12 of 16 pitches for strikes in the second inning and stranded J.D. Martinez after a leadoff double. And he stranded JaCoby Jones in the third, throwing 10 of 16 pitches for strikes.

LAKELAND, Fla. - Zach Britton's half-mound session went well today, according to manager Buck Showalter, and the left-hander will throw a regular bullpen session on Wednesday. He could make his Grapefruit League debut later in the week.
Chris Tillman will throw 20-25 pitches in Wednesday's bullpen session.
Outfielder Chris Dickerson fouled a ball off his right foot a few days ago, but the swelling is down and he could play Tuesday.
Dickerson would have been available in the regular...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy is taking his baseball activities to the next level today, swinging a bat for the first time to further test his back.
Hardy has done everything else except field ground balls. He's been busy on the practice fields while the Orioles play their games.
"Pretty much just building up baseball activities now," he said. "My back feels fine. It's basically I haven't done anything for five weeks, so everything I did this offseason has been kind of...

Not a whole lot of projected starters on this trip, but so be it.

SARASOTA, Fla. - Kevin Gausman's second exhibition start this spring won't mirror the first. Not in planned duration and certainly not in opponent.
Gausman takes the mound Tuesday afternoon against the Dominican Republic team that's preparing for the World Baseball Classic. This isn't the Twins, his first opponent, or a bunch of reserves and minor leaguers that piled into a bus.
"Anytime you face a lineup like that, it's pretty much an All-Star stacked lineup," Gausman said. "Definitely...
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles scored twice in the seventh inning today to take the lead, with Paul Janish lifting a sacrifice fly and Logan Schafer lining into a fielder's choice that plated the go-ahead run, and the bullpen shut out the Phillies down the stretch in a 3-2 win at Ed Smith Stadium.
Darren O'Day and Donnie Hart each retired the side in order in their respective innings, and Parker Bridwell stranded a runner in the ninth after a two-out walk to record his first save.
Mike Wright...

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Chris Tillman's bullpen session today went well and the right-hander is scheduled for another one in a few days before the club will consider having him face hitters.
"We were trying not to jinx ourselves and get ahead of it," Showalter said. "It's the plan that we had. Everything's falling on the calendar that we put up three weeks ago or two weeks ago. He's right on schedule. It's going to be tough to withstand any setbacks, but if...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Closer Zach Britton is scheduled to throw off a half mound on Monday and likely a full mound on Wednesday now that he's no longer experiencing discomfort in his left side.
Britton will be cleared to make his Grapefruit League debut after Thursday's off-day, assuming there are no setbacks. He threw off flat ground yesterday.
Chris Tillman remains scheduled to throw off a regular mound this morning.
Manny Machado is batting third and playing shortstop today against the Phillies...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Darren O'Day has reached the point in his career where spring training numbers won't determine his placement on the 25-man roster. He can just work toward staying healthy, maybe do a little experimenting.
Try telling that to O'Day.
It mattered to him that he struck out two batters in a scoreless inning in his debut Thursday afternoon against the Twins. It mattered that he made two stops on the disabled list last season with shoulder and hamstring injuries after signing his...
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Zach Stewart ran his spring scoreless streak to 5 1/3 innings today and the Orioles defeated the Rays 1-0 in Port Charlotte.
Stewart covered the last two innings, walking one batter and striking out two. He retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out Jace Conrad to end the game.
"He sinks the ball, got a little slider, strike thrower," said manager Buck Showalter. "He's got some history and background being a good, competitive pitcher. He's a good depth...
